Robert Ralston Obituary

Robert E. Ralston, a devoted family man and cherished member of the Washington community, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 103. Born May 2, 1922, Robert's life was a testament to kindness, hard work, and unwavering love for his family. Bob dedicated many years of his life to Columbia Gas Company, where he worked diligently until his retirement. His strong work ethic and commitment to his career were only matched by his love for his family and home. He was particularly passionate about tending to his yard and creating a welcoming haven for his family. As a World War II veteran, Robert served with bravery on the USS Swallow, a minesweeper that faced a tragic fate when it was struck by a Japanese Kamikaze, leading to its sinking. His service earned him the Purple Heart, a symbol of his sacrifice and dedication to his country. Bob's personality shone brightly through his actions. He was a man who always welcomed others with open arms, offering support and kindness to those around him. His family was his pride and joy; he was especially close to his sons, John Ralston and Allen (the late Terry) Ralston; and he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, Rebekah (Todd) Ralston-Hryckowian, Christopher (Jennifer) Ralston, and Joshua Ralston. He reveled in the laughter and love of his great-grandchildren, Lylah, Emma, Ada, and August, who filled his later years with happiness. For over 60 years, Robert found solace and community in the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, a place where his faith flourished. He was married to the love of his life, his late wife Gladys Jackson Ralston, for an incredible 80 years - an enduring partnership that serves as a beautiful example of love's persistence and depth. Bob loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, and he enjoyed many joyful days on the golf course, making memories that will be cherished by those who knew and loved him. His spirit will continue to shine through those he leaves behind, including his special nieces, Linda Smith, Marie Ewing, Elaine Vorhes; and his special nephew, Robert Keenan. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. As Bob is reunited with his beloved wife in heaven, he leaves a legacy of unconditional love, devotion to family, and the simple joys of life that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be profoundly missed, but his love and lessons live on in the hearts of his family and friends, forever shaping their lives. Bob was preceded in death by his grandsons, Shawn and Michael Ralston Services are private as per Bob's wishes. All services are entrusted by the William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allision Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.

Bob certainly showed kindness to my family. He would pick us up and take us to church and bring us back. A total of seven riding in a car not meant for seven passengers. A small act of kindness but a big impact on my memory of a fine man. May he rest in peace. Deepest condolences to Jack, Allen and their extended families.
