Sherman Dean Brownlee

Sherman Dean Brownlee, 88, of Claysville, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025, in his home, with his family by his side. He was born January 23, 1937, in East Finley Township, a son of the late Baum Blaine and Zona Belle Lindley Brownlee. Sherman had been a resident of East Finley Township his whole life. He graduated from Claysville High School in 1956. He was a member of the Claysville United Methodist Church. On June 27, 1959, he married Janet M. Breese, and they were happily married for 65 years. Sherman was employed with Washington Steel Corporation as a maintenance laborer for 31 years until he retired in 1999. Sherman served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. He enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Karen (Michael) Ealy of East Finley, Sherman D. (Shari) Brownlee, Jr. of San Tan Valley, Ariz., Pamela (Don) Carroll of Washington, and Bryan Brownlee of East Finley; six grandchildren, Jason (Catherine), Carrie and Bradley (Hannah) Ealy, Samuel (Terri) Carroll, Luke and Bethany Brownlee; six great- grandchildren, Emerson, Leroy, Henry, Addison, Silas and Owen; three sisters-in-law, Joann Brownlee of Washington, Cora Brownlee of East Finley, and Bonnie Brownlee of Claysville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lehman, Baum "Joe", and Jerry Brownlee; and his sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Don Boggs. Sherman was the last of his immediate family. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, in Claysville Cemetery.
