Shirley Ratica

1937 - 2024

Shirley Ratica, 86, of Brownsville (Centerville Borough), passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, in her home. She was born June 16, 1937, in Washington, a daughter of the late Levi and Maude Morris. Mrs. Ratica attended West Beth High School. A homemaker, Shirley was also co-owner of the Ratica Grocery in Denbo, along with her late husband for more than 30 years. She always lived her life to the fullest, and enjoyed spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren. Shirley also enjoyed cooking, bowling, and attending dances. Mrs. Ratica was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Denbo. Surviving are five children, Bob Ratica (Kyra) of Richeyville, Caroline Summers (Dan) of Morgantown, W.Va., John Ratica (Lori) of Brownsville, Pete Plutch (Michelle), also of Brownsville, and Darla Mikula (Bob) of Denbo; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. Proceeding her in death were her husband, Robert W. Ratica, who passed away March 12, 2021; her son, Floyd Plutch; eight siblings, Dolly Leonard, Barbara Adamson, Deatra Bennington, Thelma Hutchinson, Robert Morris, John Morris, Kenneth Morris, Abraham Morris, and Edna Mae "Sis" Renno. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 25, in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 26. Interment will follow in Horn Cemetery.
