Freddie Williams Obituary

Freddie Edward Williams was born in Perryville, AR on April 7, 1921. Freddie passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 30, 2017 at the age of 96 while holding hands with his daughter Dianne and her husband Brian.

Freddie is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents Leonard and Annie Eugenia Williams; sisters Ople Jones and Lorene Hale; daughters Barbara and Nancy Williams; son-in-law Roy Ezzell Sr.; nephews Edward Jones and Larry Hale; great grandchildren Amber Morrow and Clara Grace Proffitt.

Freddie is survived by son Gene Williams and wife Mary Jane; daughters Linda Ezzell, Dianne Williams Blanchard and husband Brian; caregiver and friend Dorothia Johnson; 7 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces, and lifelong friends.

Freddie's parents were sharecroppers and he spent much of his teens and early adulthood farming and picking cotton near Atlanta, Texas where he graduated high school. After high school he worked in an airplane factory in California. He joined the U. S. Navy in 1943. Freddie proudly served his country aboard the USS Lexington Aircraft Carrier fighting WWII during 1943-1946. He was onboard in Tokyo Bay when the peace treaty was signed with Japan. His job repairing airplanes led to his 35 year career as a sheet metal journeyman for Zia Corporation in Los Alamos, NM, and finally with Blumenthal Sheet Metal in Houston, TX, where he retired.

Freddie married his sweetheart, Mary in 1943 in Texarkana, TX. Three children were born in Atlanta, TX. After WWII, they relocated to several cities along the Texas Gulf Coast and in 1950 they moved to Los Alamos, NM. Two more children were born in Espanola, NM.

Freddie and Mary moved to New Caney, TX in 1957 where they built their home and raised their five children. Freddie created and engineered the house where he lived for over 60 years.

Freddie was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had a witty sense of humor and a winning smile. Freddie loved to laugh, tell stories, and sing. He loved to fish for catfish and helped many grandchildren bait hooks and reel in big catches. He was a hardworking, determined individual with the goal of always doing things the smartest and best way possible. He served his family by providing a comfortable home. He loved to farm, tend livestock and help his wife Mary with gardening.

Freddie was active in the local community of New Caney, TX. He served on the NCISD school board for 9 years; a life-time member of the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers; President of the Lion's Club, New Caney Volunteer Fireman, Member of Independent Order of Oddfellows, and Lifetime Member of the USS Lexington CV16 Association. Freddie was a few months short of earning his 70 year pin from Sheet Metal Workers' International Association Local Union No. 54 in Houston, TX.

Funeral Service is September 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Rosewood Funeral Home in Porter, TX.
