Reginald Wayne (Reggie) Burrell, 71, of Cleveland, Texas passed away February 3, 2017.
He was born August 30, 1945 in Beaumont, Texas to Harold Naylor Burrell and Beulah Mae Barrow Burrell. He was a graduate of Liberty High School in 1963. He married Joann Bennett Burrell on December 30, 1966. He then attended and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Reggie was proud of his service to his country. After his honorable discharge in 1973, he began working in the funeral industry in San Antonio, Texas. In 1976, Reggie and Joann moved to Cleveland, Texas where he served the families of Liberty County as a funeral director for 32 years. He was blessed to help families at one of the worst times in their lives, when they had lost a loved one. He treated those families like his own. He was a member of the Tarkington Prairie Masonic Lodge #498. He also served the community as a member of the Rotary Club, Cleveland Athletic Booster Club, and a Little League coach. He served Cleveland ISD, where his daughters attended school, as a school board member for 12 years. He was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Cleveland.
Anyone who knew Reggie, knew how much family meant to him. He and Joann were blessed with two daughters, Regina and Andrea. But perhaps their greatest treasures are their five grandchildren. After retirement, they spent their time between Corpus Christi and Willis supporting the grandchildren's various school, church, and sporting activities.
Reggie is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Burrell; and his mother-in-law, Alice Bennett. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joann; daughter and son-in-law, Regina and John Findeisen, of Corpus Christi; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Tommy Hues, Jr., of Willis; and grandchildren Emily and Jacob Findeisen, of Corpus Christi and Lauren, Lindsey, and Jack "Bubba" Hues, of Willis; brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Linda Burrell, of Baytown; sister-in-law and husband, Betty and Bubba O'Quinn, of College Station; sister-in-law and husband, Wanda and Leonard Roberson, of Goodrich; as well as nieces and nephews, Kellie Sartor, Michael O'Quinn, Byron O'Quinn, Walter Bennett, Jr, Dee Cathey, Donna McCollum, and their families.

To your family and friends I hope days will come when Mr James' memories can place a smile on your face. During this time pain is there and you want to have a good day, but sometimes it is hard. Strength and peace is what you may need. Psalms 46:1

Reggie, Joann, Regina, and Andrea were our neighbors in Cleveland 1977-1981. Our families played together and visited quite often. We were the same age, we were both military veterans, we were both active in Rotary and officers at the same time, and we had similar world-views. We were both going through growing pains of figuring out what we wanted to be when we grew up for me it was whether to stay in city management and for Reggie it was whether to keep a career path in the mortuary business. As it turns out, we both stayed the course in our respective careers. It has been nice to know Reggie for 40 years, even though we were neighbors only for a short time, I believe that we helped each other cope with our growing pains at critical times in our lives. We already miss Reggie but we know that he is waiting for us in a much better place. God bless Reggie, Joann, and family.
