Joe Lutz Obituary

Joe Allen Lutz, age 77, of Conover passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Conover Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born September 19, 1937, he was the son of the late Frank Junior Lutz and Nellie Isabell Ledford Lutz. Joe was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA where he was active in the Mens Group. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving from 1958 to 1970. During his time in the Air Force, Joe flew mapping missions over Vietnam and was honored to serve on the Presidential Air Fleet. He later worked in the furniture industry where he retired from Broyhill Furniture. Joe was also a former member of the Hickory Moose Lodge.

Joe is survived by his son, Joe D. Lutz and wife, Melanie, of Conover; daughter, Katherine Lutz Winters of Conover; mother-in-law, Dot Houston of Conover, sister, Faye Lutz Walker of Hickory; grandchildren, Abby Lutz, Kate Ott and husband, Jon, Robert Lutz, and Alexandra Winters; great-grandchildren, Clara Evans, Tanner Lutz, Samantha Watson and Elie Ott; niece, Terry L. Walker of Hickory.

A Service of Remembrance with military honors by Newton American Legion Post #16 will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. John Duncan officiating. A private Committal Service for the family will be held at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:15 to 12:45 prior to the service at Drum Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caldwell County Hospice & Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Condolences to all of Joe's family at his death. We were very close as cousins growing up with lots of good memories. I have been trying to locate him without success for several years so we could reminisce about the "good ole days." Sorry it didn't happen. Prayers for all of you at this time as you mourn a wonderful man.
