CHARLES COHEN Obituary
Ocala - Charles M. Cohen, DVM, 72, of Ocala, FL and Somers, CT passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at his home in Florida with his family by his side. Chuck was born in Hartford, CT, the son of Esther and Abraham Cohen.
Chuck opened the Four Town Veterinary Hospital, Somers, CT in 1973, after graduating summa cum laude from Michigan State University. He was inducted into Phi Beta Phi and Phi Zeta, was a member of the AVMA and CVMA, and licensed to practice in Connecticut, Kentucky, and Michigan.
While Chuck was an avid competitive trap shooter, and life member of the Hartford Gun Club, his greatest passion was flying. He was a member of the International Aerobatic Club, flew competitively in aerobatic contests around the country, and became a Certified Flight Instructor. He was eternally grateful to his business associate, and friend, Dr. Stacey Kasperzak for all her hard work, freeing up his time to perfect his latest flip, roll, turn or spin. He also dabbled in furniture making, collecting and racing cars, and amateur political commentary.
He is survived by his son, Glenn Cohen and his wife, Kelley, of Southington, CT; his son, Marc Cohen of Ellington, CT; daughter, Loni Cohen of Stafford Springs, CT; his partner of 17 years, Nora Johnson of Ocala, FL; his sister, Leah Zivony and husband, Amazia, of Atlanta, GA; and Shayna, his loyal German Shepherd.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Avenue, Ocala FL 34474. You may also donate to your favorite animal charity in honor of Chuck's lifelong dedication to healing animals. The family will host a celebration of life service on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 4:00 pm at Chuck's house in Leeward Air Ranch in Ocala. I went to MSU vet school. I graduated in 1971 and Chuck was 2 years ahead of me. I was from West Hartford so Chuck often drove me back and forth during vacations. I think he had a big blue Pontiac Grand Prix. The amazing thing was that my father Len Karotkin was a cousin of your Grandmother Esther. I can remember visiting her with my Dad when I found out that Chuck and I were distant cousins. Chuck was very kind to me and he was a credit to our profession.

Dr. Cohen took wonderful care of our dogs since he opened in 1973---even our difficult ones, he took it in stride when they acted up. I have left the area, and actually worked 4 an animal hospital for 13 yrs. He encouraged my interest in veterinary medicine as a child and will be forever greatful. I am sorry to hear of his passing, but I am sure he is "flying" high with the angels now.

As a 35 yr client of Doc, he was always there for me and all the dogs I've had and have. He was always available in a crisis or to chat about anything. His words of wisdom were the greatest. I had the pleasure to fly with him a few times and he fulfilled an item on my bucket-list: To fly a plane! It was the best feeling in the world. My sincere condolences to family and friends.

I worked for Dr. Cohen for a few years
He was a great man and very intelligent. I learned so much from him. He used to love the way I cleaned his house. I'll NEVER forget him. My heart goes out to his children and Nora and all his family & friends. The world lost a great man!!
