Edward A. Fox

Edward Alvin Fox, age 59, passed away on Monday, December 31st, 2012. He is survived by his wife Patricia Shippee-Fox and their children, daughter Elizabeth and son Benjamin Fox. Ed also leaves a brother Phil, sisters Sondra and Eileen, many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and an uncle. Ed began life in New York City. His family moved to Alabama and North Carolina before returning to Wantagh, New York, where he was well respected and admired by his high school companions. He briefly attended Oberlin College until wanderlust took him away on a three year adventure roaming across North America. Ed had many experiences during his quest to know his world, including working in a gold mine, on a railroad, and in a plum orchard. Ed completed his teaching certificate at S.U.N.Y at Brockport in Biology. He taught at Maple Hill High School in Castleton, NY, forging lifelong friendships with his fellow teachers, including his future wife. Dr. Fox obtained his PhD. in Biochemistry in Dr. Bud (Clarence) Ryans lab at Washington State University in Pullman, WA. Aside from family, Ed enjoyed teaching, laughing, helping others, and drawing upon his signature culinary skill of making sandwiches carved into letters, which he did for children. Dr. Fox worked at Harvard Medical School, Brigham & Womens Hospital, and, for the past 17 years, the Dana Faber Cancer Institute in Boston. A Memorial Service was held Friday, January 4th at 1:00PM at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Miller Street, Medfield. There were no visiting hours and burial was private.
