Ocala - Gerald Charles Protola, age 82, passed away in Ocala on October 6, 2008. He was born in Astoria, New York by his parents Charles and Corrine Protola. Gerald moved to Ocala, Florida in 2004 from New Port Richey, Florida. Mr. Protola was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Catholic in faith. He was an avid fisherman. Mr. Protola's wife, Doris Billingham Protola preceded him in death on January 5, 2004. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Waddell of Ocala; a son, Joseph Protola of Clearwater; grandson, Michael Waddell, Jr. of Ocala; granddaughter, Stacia Dunn Clark; great granddaughter Kaylee Dunn and a brother, Gary Fleming of New Port Richey, FL. A funeral mass will be held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 10:00 AM with Father Jean Desir officiating. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening, October 8, 2008 from 5 - 7 pm with prayers at 6 pm at HIERS-BAXLEY FUNERAL SERVICES, Ocala Chapel, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd. Those who wish may make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Central Florida Chapter, 988 Woodcock Road, Suite 200, Orlando, FL 32803-3715.
