Joseph Dewitt Obituary

DEWITT, JOSEPH
'JOE' ROBERT, 61
Anthony - Joseph Robert Dewitt, 'Joe' to his friends, was born on March 27, 1953. He passed away on Sept. 10, 2014 at the age of 61. Joe is survived by his wife and friend of 30 years, Rubby, a daughter, Jennifer and a grandson, Mason.
Joe served in the military from 1971 through 1974. He served bravely in Vietnam as a helicopter door gunner. After his military service, he became a renowned custom knife maker. He was a true artist at making beautiful functional knives. He will be long remembered by knife collectors, hunters and outdoorsmen who will use his unique knives and pass them down to future generations. When not making knives, or taking care of his family, his passion was fishing.
Joe was a very friendly man, always willing to lend a helping hand to everyone. He was smart, knowledgeable, loved to read. He dedicated his body for medical research. At some time in the near future, his remains will be cremated and a memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to send donations to the Vietnam Veterans of America in his memory.

RIP Joe, it was an honor to have met you and spend time with you and your family when the USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76 pulled into port in 2003. I miss you and will remember you always. The knives you made for me will be passed down to my son as some of my most cherished possessions.

Shocked and saddened to hear this news. Joe and I go back to the days in South Florida. He was a great guy and friend and admired custom knife maker. He will be missed
