NICKOLAS JOSEPH, 84
Venice, FL - Nickolas Joseph Stickeler, 84, of Venice, FL, entered into eternal rest on July 30th, 2012. We are saddened by the loss of his daily presence in our lives, and we feel truly blessed for the time we had with him. His spirit will remain in our hearts.
Nick was the beloved husband of Carl Ann "Jimmy" Stickeler for 63 years; devoted father to five children, Nick Stickeler (Montana) of Keller, TX; Juliann Ebert (Brian) of Ocala, FL, Carl Stickeler and (Colleen) of Valrico, FL, John Stickeler of Blue Ridge, GA, and "Casey" Stickeler of Venice, FL; a cherished brother to Madelyn Stickeler of Miami, FL; a wonderful brother-in-law to Sarah Dumas of Lapeer, MI; an adored grandfather to six grandchildren, Sheryl Stickeler of Plant City, FL, Valerie Stickeler of Tampa, FL, Jennifer Doty (Brandon) of Duluth, GA, Dale Ebert of Washington, DC, Tony Stickeler (Heather) of Valrico, FL, and Nick Stickeler of Valrico, FL; and a blessed great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren.
Nick was born August 9th, 1927 in Jersey City, NJ. His family moved to Miami, FL in the 1930s, where he attended Miami High School.
After serving in the Navy in WWII, he worked for Florida Power & Light Company for 38 years. He was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church and was active in Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Jaycees, Mahi Shriners, Toastmasters International, and Civitan International. He also served as a volunteer police officer in the Miami-Dade County Police Department.
He was an avid hunter and loved to hunt wild turkey and deer in the Everglades. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Ocala, FL where they lived for 22 years. In Ocala, Nick was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, a Florida Fish and Wildlife reserve officer, past president of the FPL retirees club, and a member of the Ocala Shriners where he was part of the clown unit (his clown name was "Happy"). In July of 2010, he and Jimmy moved to Venice, FL to live with their daughter, Casey.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 3rd, 2012 at 11:30 a.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, located at 10670 S.E. Maricamp Rd., Candler, FL 32111. The family will receive friends in the church's community hall after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nick Stickeler's honor to the Tidewell Hospice House, 210 Wexford Blvd., Venice, FL 34293, phone (941) 441-2042.
