Shirley Whitmore-Shellman Obituary
Ocala - On Thursday, December 22, 2011, God called the spirit of our dearly beloved home to be with Him throughout eternity. She was the daughter of the late Charlie V. and Willie B. Whitmore. She was the thirteenth of fourteen siblings, three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. She was a dedicated educator in Marion County Schools, a member of Alpha Kappa Sorority Inc., and a member of St. Paul A. M. E. of Ocala, Florida. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Pamela Y. Shellman and Bonica Shellman, adopted daughter: Dr. Runette Flowers, God daughter ShirNanci Frazier, two grandsons: Gregory Shellman-Hall and Graylon Shellman-Ross, eight sisters: Chester Holly (Elbert), Laverne Armstrong, Willa Walker (Howard), Evanell Coleman, Amanda Jonnson, Ruby Caldwell (Virgil), Gustave White (Dan), and Gloria Jones. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012, beginning with the Ivy Beyond The Wall Ritual at 4:15 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 4:30 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church, Ocala, FL with Pastor Patrick Sasnert. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, Eatonville, FL for the Shirley T. Shellman Education Scholarship Fund. Information provided by O.B. It is Feb 2025, and for some reason I thought about Mrs. Shellman. I looked her up on google, and came across her obituary. What a wonderful teacher. Tough, but things that she taught me still are retained in my memory 40 years later! I remember her telling me in Alg II at VHS, "Charles, remember, everything starts with the basics." We were all blessed to have a teacher as Ms. Shellman. I am even happier knowing that someday I will get to see her up in our home in Heaven.

To Bonica, Pam, and the Shellman Family, I extend my condolences. I so often would see Mrs. Shellman at the Post Office and she always smiled and asked about my family. I will miss that! May the Peace of God cover you.

My deepest sympathy to the entire Shellman Family...As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. Her memories will ALWAYS be apart of me and my family, she was a GREAT mentor. Mrs. Shirley T Shellman will truly be missed.

Mrs. Shellman was a dedicated teacher and was always such fun to work with at Vanguard High School. I enjoyed are many talks at lunch. I am sorry to hear of her passing.

My sincere sympathy is extended to Bonica, and the Family of Mrs. Shellman. She was instrumental in shaping not only my life, but countless others. I am so happy that I was given the opportunity to personally Thank her for staying consistent in "educating" those of us that were in her classes.
