OELWEIN - David L. Boies, 82, of Oelwein, died Saturday morning, Oct. 14, 2023, at Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with the Rev. Rick Johnson officiating. Interment with military honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard will be in Quasqueton Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday, and one hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.

David Leonard Boies was born July 31, 1941, in Independence, the son of Leonard C. and Dorothy Mae (Tavener) Boies. He was raised in Aurora where he graduated from Aurora High School in 1959. He proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Shields. Dave later continued his education at A.I.B. in Cedar Falls where he received his associate degree in computer science. He worked at Donaldson Company in Oelwein for 34 years. Later, Dave was self-employed, operating his furniture restoration shop.
Dave was a member of the Oelwein American Legion Post 9. He enjoyed volunteering at the Aurora Historical Society and with the annual Aurora American Legion Smelt Fry. In his free time, Dave enjoyed his dogs, woodworking, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.
David is survived by his three sons: Steve (Karen) Boies of Hazleton; Sean (Kristin) Boies of Cedar Rapids and Scott (Brandi) Boies of Central City, seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother: Alan (Nancy) Boies of Fayette; sister: Donna Armstrong of San Antonio, Texas; nieces and nephews; special friend for the past 33 years: Jean Davison of Oelwein and three stepdaughters: Joanne (Jay) Koweil of Waterloo, Lana (John) Griffin of LaGrande, Oregon and Alane (Alan) Deaton of Boise, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Richard Boies and Paul Boies.
