Ann Ross Dunn 1925 - 2011
Ann Carolyn Ross Dunn, 86, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 after a courageous ten year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Mrs. Dunn will be remembered fondly by family, friends, and colleagues from a teaching career that spanned more than a quarter century.
Born in her family home in Flemington, West Virginia, she was raised until graduating high school, then went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Ohio University. She began her teaching career in Russellville, Ohio where she met John, her husband of 54 years. They moved to Buckhannon, West Virginia where they started both a business and a family. They moved to Cambridge, Ohio where Ann taught Ohio History and they had their second son. The family finally settled in their Northampton home of 37 years where she taught nearly full-time as a substitute teacher of high school and special needs children. Upon her retirement from teaching, she worked closely with John in the family's school photography business.
In her personal life, Mrs. Dunn enjoyed playing bridge, socializing with friends and family, and walking the beach of her beloved Marco Island. An avid ``sheller,' Mrs. Dunn collected specialty and rare sea shells that she used to craft unique gifts of purses and mirrors. Mrs. Dunn was a member of the Eastern Star, active in the Ohio University Women's group, and enjoyed contributing service to her community through Meals on Wheels. She was a long standing member of the congregation of the Northminster Presbyterian Church whose support and friendship she enjoyed throughout her life.
Mrs. Dunn was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Allen Ross, father, Byron C. Ross, and husband John Raymond Dunn. She is survived by her loving sons, Ross Allen (Diane) Dunn of Bath, J.B. (Beichyan) Dunn of Concord Township; her granddaughter and namesake, Ann Dunn; sisters-in-law, Delores Dunn Tucker of Amelia, Beverly Dunn Paul of Cincinnati; and brother-in-law, Philip Dunn of Russellville.
