Barbara Platt Obituary
Born August 22, 1937 she was the daughter of the late Howard and Clara Brown. She grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee where she attended Austin High School. She later furthered her education at Knoxville College and graduated from Meharry Medical School of Nursing, Nashville, Tennessee. It was there she met her soul mate, Dr. Russell L. Platt, Sr.
In addition to her husband; she is survived by six children, Michael Brown, Fairlawn, Ohio, Pamela Potts, Hilton Head S.C. (Michael), Russell Platt Jr. (Martrice), Fairlawn, Ohio, Deborah Watters (Anthony), Copley, Ohio, Renee Harvin (Terri), Farmington Hills, Mich., and Kimberly Platt, Fairlawn, Ohio; six grandsons; and four granddaughters. She also leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Evelyn Martin ( Paul), Chatham, Virginia; brother, Howard Brown; devoted sister-in-law, Teresa Brown, of Akron, Ohio; uncle, Ernest Hickson, Knoxville, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one sister, Vivian Campbell.
Service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 1 p.m. at The House of the Lord, 1650 Diagonal Rd., Akron, Ohio 44320. Bishop F. Josephus Johnson II eulogizing and Pastor Dennis Butts Sr. officiating. Interment Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Medina Christian Academy, 3646 Medina Road, Medina, OH 44256-8168 and Calvary Chapel, Akron Children's Ministry, 629 Wesleyan Avenue, Barberton, Ohio 44203. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 4255 Scarlett Oak, Copley, OH 44321.

I'm so very sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Platt. It was always a joy to see her smiling face whenever I would come into the office. Her smile and spirit was always captivating. I will miss seeing her, but I know that she is in a far better place. "Weeping Endures for a Night, but Joy Comes in the Morning". My prayers are with all of you. I have known Mrs.Platt all but 9 yrs of my life. I just wanted to share this memory with you. I remember spending the night(3rd grade I think) and Mrs. Platt had lunch for us the next day and since each child had a friend over there would be no substitutes because there were six or eight of us kids total. Goose Liver sandwiches!!It was something I just couldn't eat, but I didn't want to be rude and took the sandwich and must have had a look of not knowing what to do because I heard, "honey would you like a peanut butter and jelly instead?" ahh the relief!! I am glad I got to know Mrs.Platt and her family. Again my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
