Dawn JoAnn Imig, 88, of
Medina, Ohio passed away peacefully just a few hours past Christmas on Monday, December 26, 2022, at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Center. We can only imagine what her homecoming was like the moment she saw Jesus! Dawn was born on January 18,1934, in
Waukesha, Wisconsin to G. Calvin Savage and Lucille Savage Cunningham. She graduated from Carroll University with a degree in Education and a minor in Drama (both of which she used throughout her whole life.)
Dawn was an amazing woman who deeply loved the Lord. She had a smile that could melt any heart and a spirit of fun and laughter that could fill a room. She loved people so fully and deeply that no one remained a stranger to her. So many lives were blessed through her love, generosity, energy, talents, and most of all, her genuine kindness.
After Dawn married James (Jim) Imig in 1956, they lived in Wisconsin, Minneapolis, Pennsylvania, California, New York, then back to Wisconsin, and finally
Medina, Ohio. Dawn taught elementary school in several different states until she welcomed her three daughters. She did not return to teaching until 1985. She taught for twenty-five years at Medina Christian Academy as their beloved Preschool teacher. She taught so many children about Jesus! Her endless energy was so memorable, especially as she got down daily on the floor to play with the children. She was always known for her love and knowledge of penguins, which she joyfully passed on to hundreds of wide-eyed children.
Dawn was always involved in community, church, and school activities! She was always willing to help a friend or neighbor. She loved to sing! You may remember hearing her sing at one of the many band concerts on the Medina Square. She loved singing those show tunes! She also sang in many church choirs, as well as Medina County Chorus for many years. She and her three daughters sang at many mother-daughter banquets. Dawn also loved acting. She acted in many community productions in several different states. You may recall her telling her famous story of "Rindercella" (Cinderella) as a funny spoonerism. She loved performing it since the 1960s! Adults and children alike loved it! In fact, she performed it every year as a Girl Scout leader. She brought so much joy and laughter to so many!
Dawn's cherished privilege in life was becoming a Mom! She always beamed when she spoke about her three daughters, Kim, Jennifer and Wendy. She (and Jim) attended every activity, concert, and performance throughout all the girl's school years and beyond. Her home was always a welcome place for all friends. Dawn loved being a part of everything (especially since she was an only child growing up). She was "over-the-moon" excited as each grandbaby entered the family! As a Grandma, she had a special relationship with each grandchild. She will be deeply missed by her family.
Dawn was preceded in death by her husband, L. James Imig (2007), parents, G. Calvin Savage (1982), and Lucille Savage Cuningham (1999).
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-loves; Kim (Dave) Netzly of
Holland, Michigan, Jennifer (John) Yeatter of Medina,Ohio, and Wendy (Scott) Winkler of
Creston, Ohio. Her grandchildren; Bryan (Kyle), Beth, Mark (Lisa), Stephanie (Matt), Josiah, Isaac, Jacob, Kyle, Sarah, Nathan (Heather), Tim (Vicki), Lydia (Eddie), Josiah (Annie), and seven great-grandchildren. She is survived by a multitude of wonderful friends from all over the globe.
