Catherine Stacey

(nee Shemuga)

Catherine Stacey (nee Shemu ga), 73, beloved mother and dear friend of Carla Marie, Kelly Marie, and James (Sherry) Stacey, lost her courageous battle with ovarian cancer on Feb. 18, 2003, while surrounded by her loving fami ly.

Born in Bar berton, where she was a lifelong resident and member of S.S. Cyril and Method ius Catholic Church and St. Anne's Society, she was a graduate of Barberton High Class of 1948 and was an avid fan of the Barberton Girls Basketball and Washington and Jefferson College women's basketball teams. She also bowled and golfed for many years and enjoyed working in her yard planting flowers, and camping with her family and friends. Her devotion to her children, family, and friends was endless.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard J.; parents, Thomas and Pauline Shemuga; and brother-in-law, Steve Yurko Jr. Sur vivors include her children; sister, Helen Yurko; brothers, John (Patricia) Shemuga and Daniel (Stephanie) Shemuga; many nieces and nephews; best friend, Edith Rotondo; and her cats, "Suzie" and "Sandy." She was truly our best friend and will be sadly missed.

Thank you, Mom, for your love and friendship. Special thank-you to Terry Goletz for her compassion and concern for us during our mother's time of suffering and also Ridgewood Skilled Nursing Unit as well as V.N.S. Hospice Care Center for their loving care of our mother.

Funeral services will be held Sat urday, 9:30 a.m., at Hahn-Hoste tler-Silva Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at S.S. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Fr. Edward Lajack, cele brant. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling hours Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of V.N.S. or the American Cancer Society with a designation to Ovarian Cancer Research.
