Sharyl Stacey Obituary

Sharyl Ann Guiver Stacey was born on November 25, 1967 in Ogden, Utah to Mary and Clarence Guiver. Staying a true math nerd, Sharyl left this life on March 14, 2026, Pi Day. At the time of her birth, she had an older sister, Janette, who was four years old. Sharyl, through her life, was referred to affectionately as "Charly". Later on, when Sharyl was seven years old, she became a big sister to Kay. As she grew up, Sharyl showed great academic prowess. In sixth grade, she received the Hope of America award. Then, in her graduating class at Clearfield High, she came close to being the Salutatorian. She graduated high school in 1986 and later received a bachelor's degree from Utah State University, with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. Her childhood was spent in Sunset, Utah, where her parents spent their entire married life. Her dad taught her punctuality and the worth of keeping your word. Her mom taught her multiple versions of sewing, cooking, and cleaning skills. On June 1, 1990, she married Mark Stacey after meeting him at Utah State University, where she tutored him in his math classes. They were married in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout the years, they spent many hours in the summers at family reunions, camping, riding wave runners and they also enjoyed going to see plays together – and watching movies together. At the beginning of their marriage, Sharyl began her teaching career as a Math teacher. Her first job was at North Davis Junior High. At this time, Mark was finishing up his degree at Utah State. In order to be together at night, she drove from Logan to Clearfield and back each day.

Together Mark and Sharyl have three children: KayLynne, Richard, and Josalyn. Each of them graduated college (with her help); she was always there when they needed her. Once Mark and Sharyl started their family, Sharyl switched to substitute teaching so that she could spend as much time with her family as she could. In addition, to continue helping more children succeed in Math, she took to tutoring students. After each of her children graduated from high school, for a time, she taught Math at Salt Lake Community College, until her health required her to stop. A woman with many talents and the determination to practice and improve, Sharyl's hobbies have included creating numerous intricate counted cross-stitch, crochet, and needlework projects. However, her passion, especially for her girls, was sewing outfits for various occasions as they grew up: beginning of school, Easter, birthday, Halloween and dance costumes, and other special occasions. If a pattern could be created, she could do it and alter it to make it even better. In addition to her many abilities in crafts, Sharyl loved to read, particularly romance, church fiction, and the scriptures. She was very diligent in studying the Come Follow Me studies each week, and helped lead her family through Facebook messenger and phone calls in Come Follow Me discussions each week. She also enjoyed reading and rereading the General Conference talks over and over. This gave her added strength through the years of health challenges. She had a great tenacity and resolved each day to record her life experiences. With all of her writings, her children and grandchildren will have a rich reading experience. As her children grew up, KayLynne found her sweetheart, Matt Berg, in Idaho. After a couple of years, an addition came to their family. Having a grandchild, Tobi, was one of her greatest loves. Whenever she and Mark had a chance to go see them, they spent as much time as possible doing it. Tobi loves his "grandma". As a little baby, he loved being held by her. As he got older, that changed to video chats where he showed off his book and toy collection. When she was there with him, she utilized all of those items and read and played with him. Later Matt and KayLynne had another little boy, John. "Grandma" loved holding, reading and playing with "Little John" just as much as she did Tobi. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. As the years have passed by, her dedication to loving and helping her children increased day by day. Whether they had a bad day, something exciting to share, a question to ask (even if her kids thought they were dumb questions, which she always said "there were no dumb questions"), Sharyl always made time for her kids and grandkids. Sharyl's life was filled with family focus, hard work, faith in God, and giving back when she could. Even when her health deteriorated for several years, due to a rare disease, she tried to be there as much as she could for family and friends. Not only with her immediate family, Sharyl found time to be with extended family members: weddings, dinners, family reunions, and temple events. Selflessly, in good health or poor, Sharyl gave her all to her church callings, such as Activity Days Girl leader; Cub Scout leader; Primary teacher, multiple times for multiple ages; Family History Consultant; and Ward Newsletter advisor. When health permitted, her solace was in monthly trips to the Jordan River Temple. All her life, she was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a valiant testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel, and a strong love for her Savior Jesus Christ.

Waiting to receive her on the other side were her parents, Clarence Bert Guiver III and Mary Janett Patterson Guiver, and her older sister Janette Lynne Guiver along with many aunts and uncles. Sharyl is survived by her husband, Mark Stacey, and children, KayLynne (Matt) Berg, Richard Stacey, and Josalyn (Karl) Hadley; her 2 grandchildren Tobias and John Berg; her sister, Kay Guiver. Ask any of her kids about what they can say about their mother and they would say, "she was always there in any way that she could be; came up with creative solutions to problems; spent hours, working, searching, and praying to help." She will never fully know how much good she did in this life, the example she was, the lives that she blessed and will continue to bless. She will be sorely missed and she is greatly loved.

A viewing will be held from 6-8pm on March 19, 2026 at Larkin Mortuary in Riverton (3688 W 12600 S, Riverton, Utah, 84065). A graveside will be held on March 20, 2026 at 10:30am at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah, 84092). There will be a small luncheon Friday, March 20, 2026 at 12:00pm at 12852 South 3200 West Riverton, Utah 84065.
