Rex Earl Case

Rex Earl Case, age 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Sandy, Utah, on March 12, 2026. A man of quiet strength and profound kindness, Rex was a "gentle giant" whose life was defined by his devotion to his family, his faith, and the natural world he so dearly loved.

Born on July 1, 1950 at LDS Hospital to Frederick and Ila Case, Rex grew up with a deep appreciation for the Earth. After earning his Bachelor's degree in applied Mathematics from Utah State University in 1972, He enlisted in the Air National Guard. After completing his basic training in Biloxi, Mississippi, he returned to Utah and channeled his love of nature into his own landscape business. He possessed a rare knowledge of plants and could identify any tree or shrub by name. He spent his work life nurturing the beauty of the Utah landscape. His love of nature also fueled his love of travel and the joy of experiencing new places and meeting new people.

A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rex was a man full of the faith. He endured countless medical challenges throughout his life with strength, patience, and humility. His life was a testament to his love of the Savior and his commitment to follow him. Rex was a frequent, humble answer to the prayers of those around him. Whether through his service in the community, or his quiet, steady presence, he touched many lives.

Above all, Rex was a family man. Rex married Janette Turner in the Salt Lake Temple on April 22, 1977. He loved his wife, Jan, and his four children with all his heart. He always had a special bond with children and the elderly and was a source of endless joy for his five grandchildren. Whether he was sharing his favorite saying, "Remember the Alamo," or parting ways with a cheerful "See you later, Alligator," his warmth was felt by everyone he met.

Rex is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Jan, and his children, Nathan Earl Case (Krysta), Travis Aaron Case (Letesha), Dustin Rex Case (Natalie), and Jessica Anne Case; and his five adoring grandchildren, Rigby, Connor, Aurora, Collin, and Ila Case. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Ila Case
