Charles Goepfert Obituary

Charles A. Goepfert, 89, died April 7, 2012 after a long illness.

He was born in Akron, and lived here his entire life. After graduating from West High School, he served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force, fighting in the Philippines during World War II. Upon returning he married his sweetheart and best friend, Mary Beck. He was employed at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in the engineering department for 28 years.

He then became a partner of Green Hills Management Co. which was involved in cemetery development and building mausoleums.

He retired in 1992 and began a life of leisure!!! He never knew when to stop, always finding some project to work on. He loved tending to his flowers, working in his workshop creating some new "necessary item." He was a "Jack of all trades." He had a lovely singing voice, picturing himself as another Bing Crosby!

He was a true family man and was known for his wonderful sense of humor.

He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.

Preceded in death by parents, Marcel and Eleanor (nee Huber), and brother, Robert, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; daughters, Susan, Joanne (Jim) Phillips of Butte, Montana; three grandchildren, Christine (Jim) Herwy, James, Hilary (Kurtis) Keene; and great-grand-daughter, Alesia Herwy.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Garimah Jones and the hospice team, Mary, Deanna, Trish, Bonnie, Jim and Bob.

Calling hours Friday, 4 to 7 at the Ciriello and Carr Fairlawn Chapel, 39 S. Miller Rd. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, followed by interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens, where American Legion Post 281 will conduct military honors. Memorials are requested to Hospice of Summa or the St. Sebastian Foundation.

Dear Mrs. Goepfert, Susie and Joanne,
I feel so badly that I was unaware of Mr. Goepfert's passing! You were such an integral part of our lives as we were growing up! I have been thinking of all the things we used to do together on Amelia Avenue. You all will always have a special place in my heart. Mr. Goepfert was such a kind and special person. He did so many wonderful things for my parents. He will always be remembered! God Bless All of You!

Dear Mrs. Goepfert, Joanne and Susie,

My hearfelt sympathy to you and your whole family on the loss of your husband and father. I spent a lot of time at your house when Joanne and I were in high school, and I learned a lot about family in your home. My fondest memories are of Chuck teasing us and telling jokes and making me feel so welcome. Some time during the course of the night you'd hear him say "Jesus, Mary and Joseph" about something. I can not think of, or hear that phrase without him coming to mind. He had a kindness and a smile that I will remember always.

Please accept my condolence for your loss. My
father Fred Bliss and I had the pleasure of
working with Chuck for many years. My thoughts
and prayers are with the family.

Dear Aunt Mary, Sue and Joanne,
Your family made me feel like a "real" niece/cousin. Uncle Chuck and Aunt Mary were the sweetest couple. I ate prime rib for the first time at their house. Asked for more, and got it. Will miss him.
Prayers to comfort you.

Mary,Susie and Joanne, Thinking of your family having to let go of Chuck but he's probably playing poker with Mamie, Eleanor and Maryann telling jokes and laughing. May God ease your sorrow

April 13, 2012

Dear Aunt Mary, Sue and Joanne -

How blessed we were to have Uncle Chuck in our lives! He sure loved his Mary and delighted in doing for her. We always felt loved and welcomed at your lovely home.
He was so sweet sending me home with plants or flowers from his beautiful garden. Carefully prepared and wrapped with instructions.
He never let you finish a meal without grabbing your plate so he could get the kitchen cleaned before anyone had a chance to help.
When Taylor was a baby, he played The Littlest Angel song for her. Always brought a tear to my eye. He knew how much I wanted to have children.
Summer family vacations, holidays, and frequent visits were such a delight. So sad when the time came to leave.
He was a master at telling jokes and always a new one each time.
We loved his singing and upbeat personality. He was encouraging and wise.
Heaven has a wonderful angel!
Love,
Renie

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
and whispered,
"Come to Me"

With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.

A Golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best

Love and Hugs

Uncle Chuck Will Always be Top of the List when it comes to what is an Uncle. While growing up we have always been there in Akron for the Easters, Thanksgivings, Christmas, and Summer Vacations at Lake Erie, Uncle Chuck was always looking after us kids and doing things that made us laugh. Busy in the Kitchen I can smell the coffee brewing, or the Ham in the Oven or Turkey. Poker Games was an all time Parent thing, but I was always wanting some pretzils from the card table. A Great Buddy of "Bowzer" (?) the Family Basset Hound. I have lived my Life with many of the Values that Uncle Chuck desplayed, True Catholic Uncle Chuck could sing. I can go on and on about Uncle Chuck, He will Always be in My Prayers! and as Uncle Chuck Would Finish the Table Prayers; "May the Souls of the Faithfully Departed; Rest in Peace"!

God Bless you Uncle Chuck, and Thank You for the Great Memories.

Aunt Mary, Susie, and Joanne...Uncle Chuck was a dear man, quick to smile, and devoted to his family. I will always have fond memories of the summer "Kid Swap" where we would meet half-way between Akron and Dayton and either Susie or Joanne would get into the Vallilsh car and either me or Renie would get into the Goepfert car for a few weeks in the summer.

The only time I can remember Uncle Chuck getting a bit "extited" was when Joanne and I found thqat when we poured "Whisk" liquid laundry soap on the basement floor and added water, we could have hours of fun sliding around the basement. Well, at least until Uncle Chuck came downstairs.

I remember the Thanksgivings and Easters when Uncle Chuck would make his amazing ham glaze with brown sugar, honey, butter, and spices. I can picture him at the stove now!

His periodic letters to my Mom and Dad always left them with tears of laughture. There was a letter thanking them for the bottle of Drambuie. The letter started with perfect penmanship and as the letter went on, well, the handwriting, spelling, and other items changed...just a bit!

I remember Uncle Chuck singing at St. Sabastians Church as he lead the singing of hymns at Mass. He really DID have a fantastic voice and sounded a bit like Bing Crosby.

I sincerely miss Uncle Chuck and I truely hope they have Blatz or Strohs beer in heaven...

Mary, Susie and Joanne, How lucky were we to have you as neighbors on Dorchester Rd for so may years. In very short order we were all family, spending lots of holidays together. My very favorite memory of Chuck was the way he always made us giggle. That great sense of humor. That special Christmas drink. The way he always cherished Mary as if he just fell in love with her that very day. The friendship he had with my Dad. But always that smile and that laughter. He cherished his family and his friends and you always knew it. A wonderful example of love and friendship that Michael, Sue and I got to experience growing up. That special feeling will always live on. You are in my heart this week as I send lots of love your way.
