Craig Buchi Obituary

Craig Kerry Buchi
"Tuff," "Punch,"
"Big C," "Pop-C"
Loving, handsome husband, devoted dad, and precious Pop-C, Craig Kerry Buchi passed away Sunday evening, September 22, 2013 at the young age of 58 from injuries sustained in a cycling accident.
Craig was born August 25, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marjorie Wignall Buchi and Keith Walter Buchi, the third of four children. He grew up with a wonderful childhood friends, enjoying all athletic pursuits, graduating from Granite High School in 1973. Craig earned a full-ride football scholarship to the University of Utah where he was the punter and place kicker, and graduated with a degree in Psychology.
It was in Sociology 101 on the first day of school that Craig asked his good friend to introduce him to the girl sitting in front of him. This started their year-and-a-half long courtship and he married Tina Lee Waldram on February 20, 1976 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. They are the parents to four of the most wonderful children ever. Craig absolutely devoted his life to his wife and children, providing for their every need and giving to them every ounce of his time. His family was the true joy of his life and his number one priority. Nothing gave him more satisfaction than spoiling and serving them. More than anything else, Craig's greatest source of happiness and pride were his kids and grandkids. He couldn't help but brag and his face would light up when he would talk about them.
He enjoyed family time together at the Bear Lake cabin - boating, riding motorcycles, golfing, and sitting around the campfire. His home in Midway was another haven he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved to ride the scooters with the grandkids, take them swimming and sledding, watch fireworks on the patio while eating s'mores, and taking the T-Bird for a spin. He was our super griller and chef and loved waiting on us hand and foot. He was always busy with projects and happily working and serving others.
Craig was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving valiantly in many callings throughout his life - one of his favorites was being in the nursery with the "kiddies." He also loved scouting with his boys.
Craig has been very successful in owning and operating Craig's Service Center on 904 S and 1300 E, the business he bought from his dad in 1983, serving generations of loyal neighborhood families. Our family gives our deepest gratitude to those great customers, and to Craig's dedicated employees.
For the last several years, Craig has enjoyed cycling with his youngest son Teal, logging miles together and supporting him through each of his races, loving every minute of this sport. He tried to make time each day for riding because the benefits were so great for his overall health. Cycling enabled him to accomplish many of the goals he had set for himself. He truly loved being in the saddle.
Craig was a great "people person," it was such a natural gift of his - he was so compassionate and caring. He truly wanted to lift others' burdens and help carry them to make life a bit easier for everyone he knew. He was generous, selfless, accommodating, and genuine. Someone once said "He is a true Renaissance Man" - he knew so much about everything and was talented enough to do anything. There is no one like Craig - he is truly "one of a kind."
Craig is so loved and will be missed by his adoring wife and eternal companion Tina and their very grateful children, Jett (Robyn) and their three children, Riley (9), Shelby (7), and Traden (4); Hailey Buchi Slaugh (Steven) and their three children, Hudson (7), Oliver (6), and Penelope (2); Chelsea Buchi Thackeray (John) and their two children, Gretel (4) and Atticus (17 months); Teal Buchi and fiancé Carly Johnson; and brother Mark Buchi and family.
Craig is preceded in death by his parents and by Tina's parents, whom he helped lovingly care for, by his sister Jodi, brother Brad, maternal and paternal grandparents, and niece Whitney Buchi.
Our family would like to thank all those who stopped at the scene of the accident for their kind compassion, caring, and help, and the Sandy City and Bountiful Police Departments for their diligence in contacting Craig's family. Also, thank you to our many ward members, neighbors, and dear friends for your love and support.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013, at 12:00 pm at the Ridgecreek Ward, Murray Utah South Stake, 5735 S. Fashion Blvd, Murray, with a viewing Friday evening at the same location, from 6:00-8:00 pm and also Saturday, from 10:30-11:45 am.
Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.jenkins-soffe.com.

Mark,

I am so saddened by the news of Craig's passing. He was a light to me in my late teens and a friend when I returned from my mission. So many things he told me that we would laugh and smile about. I am one in a million people he touched and so grateful for the times we expereinced together.

I mourn with you and the rest of your family and will keep you in my thoughts and my prayers during this difficult time.

Sometimes you hear all the amazing things about someone who has passed and wonder, what were they REALLY like? The things said about Craig feel so very accurate. I didn't know you as neighbors all that long, but we still felt the love and great spirit of a a great man. My heart is hurting for you all.

Tina and family I first meet Craig many years ago at Bear Lake, his father taught our Sunday School class. I caught up with him many years later when my husband and I moved back to Salt Lake in the Sugarhouse area. We re-discovered Craigs Conoco and it was so nice to see Craig and his smiling face and kind thoughts. We caught up with all the goings on at Bear Lake and he took great care of our 87 VW Westfalia. Going to miss his smiling face and honest work. Our love and prayers go to you and your family.

Since hearing the terrible news of Craig's passing, I have been trying to pinpoint when I first met Craig. I was a walk-on at the U and eventually went with the punters. All I can remember is that Craig went out of his way to be a friend and a mentor and the result was a life-long friendship. Several times a year I would stop in the station with a variety of auto problems and he would always ask how the family was and talk about his. He was such a great guy to talk to - friendly, generous, knowledgeable, and empathetic. I will treasure the times he invited me to go have lunch with him where we would talk about football, teaching, coaching, and family. After attending the service and hearing similar stories from others, I was not surprised about the impact he made. He has given me a road map to follow for being a better man. My sincere condolences go out to his family. God speed Craig.

We'll always remember Craig. He (and Tina) were our first friends after we moved in next door to them. Craig taught us how to take care of our yard and our garden. He showed us how to aerate our petunias with a fork. We enjoyed many fun dinners together an we'll always cherish those memories. A great kind man has left this world a much better place. He left loyal friends who look forward to the day when we'll meet him again.

Tina and family, our prayers are with you. May you find peace and comfort at this time.

My family and I first met the Buchi family when we lived on Iris lane. Our mothers started a lifelong friendship. For the past 20 years my husband and I had Craig take care of all our cars. He was so good at what he did. But it was more than that- we trusted him completely. Not to mention the fact that he was so nice and so handsome. He always treated me like he really cared. I feel so bad for his family. I feel bad for all of us. Salt Lake has lost a great man. With Deepest Sympathy.

Craig is the best of the best. I have so many great memories working at the service station with him. Craig has always been a great friend and a mentor to me. He taught me so many great lessons for life and for running a business. He was ALWAYS positive, happy, funny, active, honest, fair and kind. He taught me not to sweat the small stuff, to enjoy life and to live it to the fullest. I also remember a time that I had to ask him forgiveness for something and he surprised me with his readiness to forgive. He ALWAYS made me feel good and I will love and honor him forever. I wish the Buchi family all the love and strength and kindness that Craig so readily gave to others in his life.

September 27, 2013

My heart goes out to the Buchi and Waldram familes. What a tragedy. My son, Josh, spent some very special times with Jett. Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of a really great dad and human being. May your hearts be comforted with the memories of this very nice man.

You and Craig were such good neighbors and great examples to us. We will always remember Craig and his big smile and how he was always happy.
