Daisy Woods Obituary

Daisy M. Woods "Miss Daisy"

Together Again

Daisy M. Woods, 88, went into the loving arms of Jesus on December 23, 2016.

She was born in Akron, Ohio to David and Martha Rutland on February 19, 1928. She met and married a handsome soldier in 1946, by the name of Douglas Woods and to this union seven children were born. Daisy was a faithful member of The House of the Lord and also attended Arlington Church of God with her daughter. Daisy had a zest for life and never met a stranger. The name Daisy, which means "Eye of the day", describes her perfectly as she was always the life of the party. She worked for The Akron Board of Education as "The Lunch Lady" at Leggett Elementary School and deeply loved the students. She made sure each child had a hot lunch even if they couldn't afford one. Daisy was also employed as a travel agent with Steven's Travel, and started her own travel agency, Cascade Travel, with two partners. Her main job however, was "Mom in Chief" as she ruled the roost with a stern hand but a warm heart. Daisy served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, choir director, and Girl Scout leader and was president of Hower High School PTA. She also enjoyed working in politics.

Daisy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Douglas; children, David and Martha Woods; father and mother, David and Martha Rutland; sisters, Annie Dill, Lela Harris; and brother, Floyd Rutland. She leaves to mourn, her children, Douglas Woods Jr. (step-son) of Harker Heights, Texas, Spencer Woods (Gwen) of Akron, Ohio, Mona Gillum (Lloyd) of Prescott, Arizona, Roseanne Hubbard of Van Nuys, California, Donna (Donald) Hadden of Tallmadge, Ohio and April (William) Lillie of Barberton, Ohio. She also leaves grandchildren, Spencer, Kevin, Natalie, Tia, Alicia, Roland, Daisya, Gaylin, Saday, Aaron, and Miguel; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life service will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Rhoden Memorial Home, 1101 Palmetto Ave., Akron, OH 44306. Family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until time of service, Bishop F.J. Johnson II, eulogizing. Condolences may be sent to Rhoden Memorial Home.
