David Stump Obituary

David A. Stump

TALLMADGE -- David A. Stump, 68, passed away December 11, 2017. Life time resident of the Akron area except for 11 years spent in London, England. He served his country in the U.S Army, worked for Goodyear and Motor Wheel and then for Operation Mobilization.

David was an upright man with a wry sense of humor and a heart that overflowed with generosity toward friends and strangers alike. He was a world traveler who loved exploring new cultures; he and his wife spent over a decade running Manna House, a Christian quest house outside London. After returning to Ohio in 2013, David and his wife continued to share their gift of hospitality by opening their home to missionaries, friends, friends of friends and especially international students, to whom David was often a father figure. David was a man who loved to pray and serve God. He lived life fully, and in the hour of his death, had no regrets.

Preceded in death by his parents, Genevieve and Charles Stump; brother, Randall; he is survived by his wife, Judith of 43 years; brother, Charles; sisters, Jeannie Bochette and Shirley Stump and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is Thursday, January 11th at 3:30 p.m. at The Chapel, 135 Fir Hill, Akron in the Memorial Chapel. There are calling hours from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service. We have known and loved David for more than 44 years. We shared meals, travels, laughs, losses and friendship with this wonderful man. He spent a great deal of his life helping and respecting other people. And, now he has been called to continue his mission as a part of God's plan. But, for all of us, he is gone way to soon. With lots of love to Judy, his family, and all those whose lives were touched by David, Jim and Kendal Taylor

I worked with David at Goodyear many years ago. We had many good times at work or across the street for lunch. He was a good strong hard working man. Dave, you were a good friend during my rubber shop days...You fought the good fight, you ran the good course, you finished well...God bless you and your family..

David was a man so full of life that I had a hard time realizing that this really could be his obituary. But then I remembered he is now more full of life than he has ever been, and that is comforting. I had the privilege of working with David at Friday Night Dinners, where he served our international friends so cheerfully. It was always a pleasure to see his big figure coming in the door with a big dish or box of food.

Sending lots of love to his wonderful wife. Can't imagine how hard this is.

I don't know to whom to attribute this quote, but I think it captures David.

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out and proclaiming, 'Wow, what a ride!'"

David lived and loved life fully and was always ready for another adventure. He loved his family and friends just as fully. He was always willing to help others, even complete strangers. He lived his faith.

David will be greatly missed by many.
