Sally Griffin, 74, passed away on Sept. 15, 2006.
Preceded in death by her husband, Claiborne E. Griffin, Sally leaves her sons, Jeffery Olah (Ruth Castle) and Michael Olah; granddaughter, Jennifer Simmons (Scott); great-grand-children, Samuel and Alexa; sisters, Kathleen Deanda, Mary Rupley; and brothers, Robert, Richard and James McArthur. She also considered Ruth's grandchildren (Grace and Jacob) as her third and fourth great-grandchildren.
Sally enjoyed numerous artistic endeavors and was an accomplished painter, sculptor, interior and garden designer, and in her later years turned her talents to making quilts coveted by family and friends as works of art. Each of her great-grand-children have their own unique quilt, made especially for them by her. Sally and Clay enjoyed gourmet cooking, and experimenting in the kitchen, with many as their guinea pigs, (most) always to rave reviews. She enjoyed collecting antiques, and had such a collection that she had to become an antique dealer to make room for future acquisitions. Her shops at Schoolhouse Antiques and Fish Market Antiques in Akron were more avocation rather than vocation, and she spent more time educating those who visited, than selling them her wares. She was a lifelong student, and teacher to all who listened, but mostly she enjoyed the role of ``mom" to all, sister and friend to many, and grandmother and great-grandmother to a fortunate few.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. SATURDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her name to the Dorthella L. Griffin Scholarship in Art at the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio 44325; V.N.S. Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron 44333; or the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, Ohio 44406.
