Dr. Hellwig delivered 2 of my children and during those pregnancies he was an attentive, caring doctor and a great comfort to me and my family. He was also a good friend for many years afterward. He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. My sympathies and prayers are with you all at this sad time.

To The Family of Dr. Hellwig:
I feel like I knew him well, even though I have never had the pleasure of meeting this gentleman, who many have spoken so fondly about for so many years! I would like to thank this man who took great care of my mother, Jean Mier, and subsequently delivered me on December 1, 1954 very early in the morning at St. Thomas Hospital!
Even though I had never met your father, Lyn, you and I got to know each other from your years at The Elms and mine at Hoban.

To The Family Of DR.Hellwig, I am one of the many babies DR. Hellwig delivered at ST. Thomas. I never had the chance for DR. Hellwig to deliver any of my 6 children. But I remember the stories my mother told of the kind doctor who treated her with compassion and dignity. And I am blessed to know that DR. Hellwigg was one of the first faces I saw when I was born.

To the loving Hellwig family: What role models of family love and devotion you each have been for the rest of us. "Uncle Ed", as he so generously allowed me to call him, was a true sweetheart and a gentle-man. All of you always made me feel so welcome in your home and the visits with Uncle Ed were fun! He was always interested in what everyone was doing. I am so sorry for your loss. He's counting on you to carry on and "stick together". I know you will!
Fondly,
Carol Lieb

Dear family of Dr. Hellwig,
I'm sorry for the loss of your dad, but happy that he was able to enjoy so many years of retirement. He retired before I was pregnant with my 7 child. He had delivered my first 6 and was so very kind and caring. I remember when I was pregnant with my first baby and found out I was Rh neg. I cried for fear that my hopes for a large family would not be possible. He comforted me and explained to me the new shot that came out the year before called RhoGam that would prevent problems. He also said that he and his wife had been in the same situation (without the benefit of the shot) and managed to have 6 wonderful healthy children. I left the office feeling so good. He cared and it showed.
I'm sure that I'm in a large majority that have wonderful memories of this great man.
Thank you for sharing him with those of us in his practice.
Love and Blessings, Carol Lieb

I'm sure I'm one of many mothers in the area who were blessed to have Dr Hellwig as their Ob-Gyn. It was so wonderful to see his face when each tiny bundle was born. His eyes lit up like it was his first delivery. What an extraordinary man! My prayers will be with the family.
