Fred Curran Obituary

Fred M. Curran

DOYLESTOWN -- Fred M. Curran reached his journey's end Friday evening, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born December 4, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio, to Bert and Helen Curran, Fred graduated from Worthington High with the class of 1955, and attended The Ohio State University.

His 28 year career with IBM began in Columbus and soon took him to Evansville, Indiana, as Office Products Administration Manager. He and his team were recognized for bringing the office from 165th in the nation to 2nd within two years. In 1977, while doing an audit of the Akron IBM office, he met his forever love and best friend, Victoria Williams, requested a transfer and began their 37 year journey together later that year.

Both sharing a love of travel, it was a journey that included numerous trips to Europe. Always a bit adventurous and fearless, he preferred driving the Alps and the autobahn himself, never tours. 9/11/2001 was the last planned trip to the Bavarian region that left them stranded in Toronto. They still returned to other favorite Caribbean and Hawaiian Islands and began exploring our own beautiful country. (And, yes, he knew it was illegal to feed buffalo from his car in Yellowstone!) Retiring from IBM at 51 allowed more time for travel, visiting the kids as they moved from state to state, and being a groundskeeper at their home in Doylestown.

As a father, he shared the love of the outdoors with his four children. Having gone annually since the age of three to Ontario, he continued the tradition of yearly family vacations on Manitoulin Island, Ont., another 60 years. They were all taught to fish, but to the end, his catch was always bigger!

Fred was a 13 year cancer survivor who fought each new occurrence and was only slowed by renal failure in 2013. The Wadsworth Dialysis Center became an extended family during the two-and-a-half years of dialysis treatments there. He liked to tell the fun, caring staff that they made the ordeal "almost" enjoyable. Dr. Freeland Oliverio and his medical team gave Fred excellent care the last few years, and Clear Path Hospice provided Fred and the family comfort, compassion and support. His Circle Drive neighbors are friends who are cherished for all they have done for Fred and Vicki over the years.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Arthur Williams; and beloved grandson, Dalton J. Curran. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vicki; children, Bret (Claudia) Curran, Debbie (Brett) Lynch, Brian (Kathy) Curran, and Brad (Anna) Curran. Also mourning his loss are his precious mother-in-law, Dora Williams; and favorite brother/sisters-in-law, Darrel and Patricia Williams; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, July 27, 2015, and 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, with funeral service at 11 a.m. at Bacher Funeral Home, 3250 Greenwich Rd., Norton, Ohio. Pastor Michael Prillaman of Country Chapel officiating. If desired, donations in memory of Fred may be made to Neuro-Oncology Research and Support Fund #311812, The Ohio State University Foundation, 1480 West Lane Avenue, Columbus, OH 43221.

God's grace and the prayers of many brought Fred to the end of his journey, a place far more beautiful awaits him. As he would often tell his children, "Go, knowing we love you."

Funeral home map, directions, and the Curran Family condolence book are available at the funeral home's website.
