Frederick Mourey Obituary

CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Fred Mourey, 57, passed away December 12, 2009 after a courageous and determined battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

Born February 11, 1952, Fred was a lifelong resident of Cuyahoga Falls. He graduated in 1970 from Cuyahoga Falls High School. He attended Ohio State University and graduated from The University of Akron with a B.A. degree.

Fred was a gifted speaker and walking sports encyclopedia. He broadcasted local High School football, and until recently was the host of the 'Joe Average Poker' Show. He was an alumni backer of Akron U and until recently attended every basketball and football game. Fred was also a gourmand, who enjoyed the finest of foods. He played and coached baseball and softball, locally, for many years. He also was an avid golfer.

Preceded in death by his mother, Mildred and father, Frederick, he is survived by his loving family: his dedicated wife, Ildiko; his daughter, Andrea; son, Steven; and mother-in-law, Goldie. Their love for Fred was unconditional and he was the light of their life. He will also be missed by many dear and close friends. He was definitely an inspiration and joy to be around.

Cremation has taken place. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, where a Memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Chaplain Rick Kudasick officiating. I just found out that Fred had passed and wanted to extend sympathy to his family. Fred and I grew up together, going to Grant School, Bolich Jr. High and Falls High. We were very close in age as his birthday is a few days after mine. We played golf together a few times and I know he used to come to Arizona many years ago to watch the Indians in spring training in Tucson. He had a wonderful laugh and a very sharp mind for details.

I was fortunate to meet Fred and Ildiko at the same time; and feel unfortunate that it was so recent. Ildiko my heart is with you during this time mourning the loss of such a special person. I also want to express my sympathy to Mike and the rest of Fred's wonderful friends - your love and commitment was a testament to the the giant heart of Fred. He takes the best part of us all with him.

What a caring and intriguing person you were Fred! Growing up, I learned you were a walking encyclopedia of sports, music, history, and trivia. I know you touched many lives, and I appreciate the friendship you had with our family for so many years. May you rest in peace.
