George Deme Obituary
George Deme Jr., 95, beloved husband, father, uncle, and friend, passed away under the loving care of his daughter and son-in-law. (Dad, it was an honor to care for you).
He was born in Akron on November 17, 1920 to Anna and George Deme. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from his beloved Garfield in 1938 and briefly attended Akron University. He married Lily Palumbo (the love of his life) in 1943. George worked for Goodyear Aerospace and Goodyear Tire for a total of 45 years as a design engineer.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of almost 70 years of marriage, Lily; his son son-in-law, Jamie; and his brothers-in-law, Clem P. and John K. He is survived by his children, Cassie (Angelo) Fortunato and George (Carol) Deme III; sister, Ann Kortvegesi; grandchildren, Andre Rhodes, Vincent (Beth) Fortunato, Angelo (Christal) Fortunato, Robert Deme, Andrew (Leslie) Sallorem; great-grandchildren, Dominic and Vincent Rhodes; Anthony and Angelo Fortunato and Max Ponkir; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be missed also by Sofia Hunt and Joey Forunato. Family was Dad's great joy and he loved to photograph them often.
George's hobby and passion was photography and videography. He enjoyed filming football games for Garfield, Central and many other high schools for 40 years. He loved the years he spent traveling with his wife and enjoying family. But, he also enjoyed years he spent with Bill Magee, Felix Latona and Babe Flossie.
The family will receive friends at Anthony and Son Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Rd., Uniontown OH 44685 (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads in Green, entrance off of Steese Rd.) on Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank, 350 Opportunity Parkway, OH 44307. (Anthony, GREEN, 330-899-9790, anthonyfh.com)

I remember George from years ago at Goodyear. He sat near me and we had a lot of fun talking and toasting each other. He talked about his favorite Garfield football team. He used to bring in hot peppers and eat them saying it would cure all and keep away illness. Guess he was right since he lived such a long life. He was a great guy. Don Taylor

Your dad was a fine gentleman and a loyal friend. I fondly remember him smoking his cigar,taking photos,making his bacon bread and telling funny stories to us. You were very lucky to have had him.I will never forget all that he did for me.
