George Epstein Obituary

George Epstein

Known for his love of family and his special way to make us laugh and find joy in everything, George Epstein, 90, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2014.

Born November 27, 1923 in Bronx, N.Y., George was a long time resident of Akron, Ohio. He earned his Masters in Chemical Engineering while stationed at OSU. There he met and married the love of his life, Lois Allen of Cleveland, Ohio.

He committed his life and legacy to chemical research and engineering endeavors, some of which remain influential today; The Manhattan Project, The USS Nautilus and countless applications to residential construction as V.P. of R&D for Alsides Inc., where he earned two U.S. Patents for his work with aluminum siding.

He found the greatest pride, however, in the successes of his children and grandchildren.

He loved travelling the world with Lois, playing golf, and cards. He remained a devoted OSU Alum, Browns and Indians fan and a member of Temple Israel.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Rose Epstein of Bronx, N.Y., and sister, Matilda Doctor of NYC. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Lois; daughters, Ann Silverman (Norman) and Dale Pitman, both of Dublin, Ohio and four of the proudest grandchildren ever: Brian Silverman, Beth Stevenson (John), Samantha Pitman and Jeffrey Pitman.

A Graveside Service will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park, 3653 W. Market St., Akron at 1 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of George may be made to: Pawsibilities Humane Society of Greater Akron, or the American Heart Association, Akron.
