James G. Griggy, 81, of Ravenna, passed away Monday, September 15, 2008 at Longmeadow care center.
He was born November 27, 1926 in Kent, Ohio to the late Edward and Eunice (Robinson) Griggy. He graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1944, then served in the U.S. Army/Merchant Marines during the Korean War. He was an lifelong resident of Ravenna where he retired from the Kent Post Office, was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Moose, and Eagles. He was an avid bowler, and sports fan.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia (Michael) Boettler of Ravenna; sons, Edward (Chasity) Griggy of Akron, Raymond (Donna) McElhiney of Ravenna, Ronald (Bonnie) McElhiney of Shalersville, and Garry McElhiney of Ravenna; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Griggy, and sister, Virginia Fink.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 12 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the Shorts Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel, with the Funeral Service to follow calling hours. Rev. Carl Holm will be officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park Ravenna. Memorials can be made to Longmeadow Care Center or Robinson Memorial Hospital VNA and Hospice in memory of James Griggy.
