James Lyons Obituary

James Michael Lyons III, 19, of Akron, Ohio, passed away Monday April 11, 2011. His paternal grandparents, James and Mary Lyons, and his maternal grandmother, Joan Kelley, greeted him in heaven. He is the beloved son of Jim and Mary Lyons and the big brother of Bradley.

Jimmy attended St. Hilary Elementary School, where his passion for geography led him to the state geography bee. He then attended Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where he was loved and respected by students and faculty alike. An avid reader, and extremely bright, Jimmy was always eager to learn. He had a strong faith and was immersed in Walsh Jesuit's campus ministry: Kairos, Labre Project, Catholic Worker, and Eucharistic Ministry. Jimmy was a member of the Walsh Jesuit wresting team all four years. More important to him than the pin, was the opportunity to be a team player and to enjoy the camaraderie of his teammates. Jimmy's unique, self-less, and caring nature led to his selection as ``the most unforgettable senior' in the Walsh Jesuit class of 2010. He was kind to everyone he met. All would agree that Jimmy was best known for putting a smile on everyone's face and touching their hearts. Jimmy will truly have a lasting impact on all those whose paths he crossed. Although Jimmy will be greatly missed, he is now watching over all who loved and adored him.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Jim and Mary; brother, Bradley; grandfather, John Kelley; aunts and uncles, Jim and Joan Kelley and their children Paul and Shannon, Paul and Sue Kelley and their children Michelle (Ryan Gunnels), Dirk, Lauren, and granddaughter Heleena, and Jack and Jean Kelley and their children Patrick, Kathleen, and Brian.

The Lyons will receive family and friends at Walsh Jesuit High School on Friday, April 15 from 3 to 7 p.m., at 4550 Wyoga Lake Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Hilary Catholic Church, 2750 West Market St., Fairlawn, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the Lyon's request that contributions be made to The Jimmy Lyons Endowment Fund at Walsh Jesuit High School. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

A Friend

April 20, 2011

When I am gone, release me -let me go
I have so many things to see and do.-
You must not tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy that we had so many years
I gave you love, you can only guess
how much you gave me in happiness
I thank you for the love each have shown
But now it is time I travelled alone
So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust -
It is only for a while that we must part
So bless those memories within your heart.-
I will not be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come. -
Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near -
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear -
All of my love around you, soft and clear.-
Then when you must come this way alone,
I will greet you with a smile and a "welcome home"

May God Bless all of you during this most difficult time.

Dear Lyons Family,
I am so sorry for your loss of Jimmy. Seeing Bradley walk down the aisle at the funeral made me remember all the great times I spent with both Bradley and Jimmy. When I was in 7th grade, Bradley was my "buddy". He was and still is a very bright boy. Your family and Jimmy will always be in my prayers. Jimmy was a good person and don't let his death bring you down. He lived a wonderful life and had loving people surround him and now he is with God. He is in the best place. He is looking down on all of us. He left a mark on my heart, your hearts and everyone else's heart. Keep your head high and keep smiling. (:

Dear Mary, Jim and Bradley,
As I sat at Mass today, I could see Jimmy's wonderful face. He was always one of my favorites when I subbed at St. Hilary. He always had the time to talk to me and let me know what he was up to. Mary, once I told your Mom (when she was helping Sister Carol Joy) that Jimmy was one of my favorite kids. A huge smile grew across her face. Everyone felt that way about Jimmy. I feel so fortunate to have known your son. He was truly a boy that was touched by God and a great inspiration to all of us. May God take you under His care and help you all through this most difficult time. You are in our prayers.

Dear Jim & Mary,
My heart has been sending Love and Light to you since I heard of your tragic loss. Your son wrestled with my son Zach. This life in the flesh is only a tempory housing...Jimmy is still aware, sorrowful for his choice, gathered with you, as he needs to, and watching over your family. The veil is thin. Today I pray you and yours will be lifted beyond on Angel wings. That the heavenly realm in all its glory will shine down upon you, comforted by the Almighty.

Emily came Home from Ohio State and Shared with Me that at Walsh , Jimmy's Friends Painted a Rock in His Memory, and a *Rainbow came out , I went and laid down and cried for quite a long time. No words are strong enough to ease your pain, just know that there are a world of people out there supporting you. Dearest Mary, Jim and Bradley,

Our family was truly blessed to have known Jimmy for more than 13 years - from the time he was in kindergarten. We watched him grow from an amazing child to a wonderful, caring young man. It was Jimmy who went out of his way to put a smile on the faces of others, and to share his amazing smile with the world. Katie looked foward to Jimmy's Superbowl parties and he always made her laugh. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family. We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. My the peace of God be with you.

Lyons Family,

I'm a Junior at Walsh, and I only met Jimmy once. However, during that brief moment, I found that Jimmy was a wonderful person.

During the 2009 Spring Musical, Bye Bye Birdie, Jimmy agreed to be filmed as part of a scene. His enthusiasm helped to make that musical great.

Your family remains in my thoughts.

Jim, Mary and Bradley,

Jimmy was one of the first boys to friend our son Matthew when we came to St. Hilary in 2001. He did not hesitate to reach out to him and help him with the difficulty of transitioning to a new school. I remember when we took a group of the boys to Kendall Cliffs for climbing and Jimmy was the most positive in the group - cheering on and encouraging everyone. I hope that it can offer you some comfort to know that although his time on this earth was much too short, he touched many lives. We will remember him fondly -

The Lyons Family,

My husband works in Campus Ministry at Walsh Jesuit and I was blessed to have Jimmy in my home for a Kairos dinner. He was such an amazing young man and had such a wonderful sense of humor. I just wanted to let you know that you are in our prayers during this very painful time and that our hearts our heavy for you.
