RITTMAN -- John R. Gamble, Jr., 61, of Rittman, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Akron City Hospital.
He was born November 14, 1946 in Lodi to John R., Sr. and Dorothy M. (Heath) Gamble and lived in Rittman since 1975. He grew up in Seville and enjoyed spending summers on his grandparent's farm. John graduated from Cloverleaf High School in 1964 and attended Ashland College and the University of Akron. He was employed at Morton Salt Company where he started in an entry level position and retired as plant comptroller. He sponsored a child from the Christian Children's Fund for several years, and enjoyed reading. He also enjoyed trips to the Bahamas for golf and scuba diving, fishing vacations in Canada and sailing on Lake Erie and the Florida Keys. He was an Army veteran serving in Korea during the Vietnam War era.
Surviving are his mother, Dorothy Gamble of Rittman; brother, Gary (Sara) Gamble of Westfield Center; sister, Judy Lucas of Medina; aunt, Clara Belle Johnson of Aiken, SC; uncle, Charles (Jill) Heath of Lafayette Twp.; three nephews, one niece, a grand nephew, and many friends.
Services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman, with Rev. E. Dennis Henkle officiating. Burial will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
