John Snoderly Obituary

John Allen Shelby Snoderly, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. He was born to William E. Snoderly and Alma Shelby Snoderly Sebaugh Ostroff in Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Springfield High School, then earned an Associate's Degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College. Before continuing his education, John entered the United States Air Force as a Pilot. Upon his honorable discharge, John earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Akron in 1952, followed by his Juris Doctorate in 1959, also from the University of Akron. Upon passing the Bar, John opened his private law practice in Akron in 1959 and became a professional member of the Ohio State Bar and Akron Bar Associations. John was an active and proud member of the Lakemore United Methodist Church, serving as a Trustee and law advisor for the church. He was also a founding member of the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. Additionally, John quietly stayed involved in his community by sharing his wisdom and expertise with many local charities, businesses, schools, and individuals. While a tireless worker throughout his life, he also made time to teach himself to play multiple musical instruments, fly with clients, golf with friends, and sail with wife Cathy and their dear friends on the Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed camping with his daughters and eventually the grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elizabeth Cameron and Joann Insalacco; son, John Jr.; and son-in-law, Duane Dobyan. John leaves behind his wife, Cathy; daughters, Lynn Marie, Catherine Dobyan, Elizabeth Giovagnoli (Gary), Rebecca Lancaster (Ryan), Susan Davis (Dan) and Deann Moore (Jeff). Papa John was a wonderful grandfather to 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his loyal secretary of 31 years, Teresa Shaw. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 8th at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312 with Pastor Jeff Gindlesberger officiating. May God bless this family. Anytime I was with Lynn she was always cooking something to take over to her dad and Kathy or going to give him a hair cut, even just to help take out the trash. He was loved my his daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. May he Rest In Peace.

I am so sorry for this family’s loss. Lynn always spoke so highly of her father. Every time I was over there she was cooking for him and Kathy or going over there to cut his hair or take out the trash. I hope they find peace knowing he is in a better place. I know his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will miss him dearly.
