Long time Ravenna resident Joseph Nathan Logan passed away on November 16, 2006 after a short illness.
Mr. Logan was born in Kentucky on September 23, 1916 to the late Henry and Isabelle Logan. Upon moving to Ravenna in the 1930's Mr. Logan was first employed as a porter at the Ravenna Hotel and then the bowling alley on N. Sycamore Street. During World War II he was employed as a metal worker at the U.S. Army Arsenal. During this time he and his first wife Emma Jean (Brown), who passed away in the early 1960s, had nine children. He was employed at Robinson Memorial Hospital for 22 years where he retired in 1989.
For many years after his retirement, Mr. Logan could be seen riding his bicycle from his Diamond Street home to and from Main Street where he worked as a custodian at the mini mall, formerly Skorman's Department store. He was an avid gardener and was well known for his musical and entertainment talent and wonderful sense of humor.
Mr. Logan leaves to mourn his wife of 30 years, Alice; daughters, Lora Mason, Garnette White, Cheryl Logan all of Ravenna, Joyce Bethune of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sons, Thomas of Akron, William of Ravenna; stepchildren, Carol (Eric) Marotta and Fred of Ravenna, Gail (Chris) Richards and Doris Whipple of Akron; special daughter-in-law, Barbara Logan of Ravenna and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by sons, Louis and Marion; daughter, Yvonne and six siblings.
Calling hours will be held at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel on Tuesday, November 21, 2006, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at 1 p.m. Interment at Maple Grove Cemetary, Ravenna.
