Kevin McQuaide Obituary

BARBERTON/N. LAWRENCE -- Kevin D. McQuaide, 52, passed away while surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 14, 2009, after a bravely fought four year battle with cancer.

Kevin was born August 16, 1957 at Travis Air Force Base, Fairfield, Calif. A graduate of Barberton High School, Class of 1975, he was a resident of Barberton until moving to N. Lawrence. He was long recognized for his professional accomplishments, civic achievements and community involvement. The current CEO of Clay's Park Resort, he was responsible for many quality improvement initiatives at Clay's. Kevin also brought new events to the company including his beloved, Rock-N-Resort Music Festival, The Fox Creek Outdoor Experience, and Splat Paint Ball to name a few.

He was the former KMBA Management Services President and Chief Business Development Officer for Barberton Citizens Hospital. Kevin played a key role in the establishment of the Barberton Community Foundation.

In 1998 Kevin earned the "Distinguished Sales and Marketing Award" by Sales and Marking Executives in Akron. He was also named Business Leader of the Year by the South Summit County Chamber of Commerce, the youngest person to ever receive that award. Kevin was a past president of the South Summit Chamber of Commerce and the Magic City Kiwanis Club. He served on the boards of the American Heart Association, Volunteer Center of Akron, Tuscora Park Health and Wellness Foundation, Barberton Area Red Cross, AAA Barberton Auto Club, and was a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, in the years prior to his illness. Kevin was a member of the 1994/95 class of Leadership Akron and served as a consultant for the formation of Leadership Barberton.

Kevin was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all he came to know. He will long be remembered for his love of country, OSU and the loving care he extended to his family and many friends.

Despite all of his many credentials, he was most proud of his family: his beautiful wife, Peggy (whom he married July 12, 2001); his children, Scotty, Cory (who preceded him in death) and Megan; stepchildren, Clay, King and Lucy; his grandchildren, Talon, Ben and Brody; parents, David and Gloria (Parks) McQuaide; brother, Scott (Deanne) McQuaide; sister, Mindy (Mike) McCarthy; former wife, Pat McQuaide; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the nurses and doctors at Barberton Citizens Hospital ICU and 1-East, as well as all the doctors, nurses and staff that cared for and helped Kevin in his four year battle.

Funeral service will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at Canal Fulton United Methodist Church, 363 W. Cherry Street, Canal Fulton, Ohio 44614, with Pastor Ann Henman and Rev. Kathy Moody-Arndt officiating. It's hard to believe it's been a year already since we lost Kevin. Although I had a pretty good summer, it wasn't the same without Kevin around. He was a great friend and I really missed him this year.

I am so sad to hear of Kevin's passing...what a gallant fighter and a wonderful, fun loving person. I know that he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. I am sure that Cory was waiting for him when he arrived on the other side...while all will miss Kevin here on earth, perhaps it helps alittle to know that Cory can now have some peace and understanding with his father by his side. We send peace and prayers to Peggy and all of Kevin's children, family, and friends.

McQuaide Family,
Kevin was an incredible man full of life and surrounded by love. As I said goodbye to him last night, I also got to know him better looking through all of the displays. He lived life to it's fullest and shared his love with everyone he touched. We were high school friends that went our own ways in life. I just recently became reaquainted with him, following his battle with cancer, and learning from his determination and strength how to battle my own cancer. He will forever be an inspiration to me as I battle on. Scot if you ever need anything or someone to talk to, please give Sherri and I a call.
May God Bless his family!

To Peggy and Family,

I will remember first seeing Kevin at the first church of Christ, and at my orientation at Barberton Hosp. and as years went by I learned he graduated with my brother Dan Nott class of 75. But most of all I learned the zest he did have for life at Parkview Center while he did fight a couragous battle. Just being able to serve him with a coffee or warm blanket, his smile and kindness that is what I'll remember most. God Bless your family,

September 17, 2009

To the entire McQuaide Family,

I was saddened to read of Kevin's death. I always felt that I knew him personally because of Bob. He spoke so highly of him and of your entire family. You remaind one of his favorite families throughout his entire teaching career. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

To the McQuaide Family,Please know how deeply sorry I am for your loss.We know that Our God only loans our loved ones to us and then too soon, we have to hand them back. There is peace in knowing that while they were with us, we loved and laughed and ejoyed life. May he rest now and may your hearts find peace until you see each other again. Margaret Visich-Fraser

Scott, Deanne and family;
My sincere sympathy to you and your family and the loss of your
brother. I didn't personally know him, but I've known of him for years. Our youth groups (my children included) would attend the "Alive" concerts there at Clays and come home so pumped up for Jesus Christ.
I don't think that anyone can begin to count the number of youth in our community, state and surrounding states whose lives were changed from attending those concerts.

He will be missed by many.

With sincere sympathy,
Mary Ann Shunko

Our prayers and thoughts are really with you during this tough time in your lives. Many people have written about your dad's smile and the joy of life he carried with him and nothing brought a bigger smile to his face or greater joy to his life than you did.
I think your dad knew that his smile will always be there for others to see when they see you.
To the whole Mcquaide family, we love you guys and will pray that you find comfort and peace.

My deepest sympathy to Peggy, Kevin's family and his friends for his loss. I added friends because most of Kevin's friends considered Kevin part of their family.
I was so worried about Kevin having another operation, but he was determined to beat his cancer. He's been through so much but kept fighting and Kevin was the strongest and most determined person I ever met.
Kevin was a huge inspiration to so many people and made a huge difference in most of our lives. It was an honor and privilege to have such awesome friends with Kevin and Peggy and he will be deeply missed.
Kevin's spirit and inspiration for enjoying life will live on through all the people he touched and the love he shared with so many!

Having had the pleasure of working for Kevin and Peggy, I got to know a little bit about Kevin pretty quick. I'm quite sure I haven't met someone so full of life and loved life like he did. That man had so much energy and laughed constantly! His love for his family was barefaced and he was always ready and willing to help someone. I was hoping this day would never come, but I'm sure he and Cory are having a good time together again.
