Larry Beltz Obituary

Reverend Larry Owen

Beltz

Reverend Larry Owen Beltz, 60, went home to be with his Savior and Lord after a heart attack, on May 13, 2004. We celebrate, as his family and friends, knowing that he is fully restored and rejoicing with his Lord.

Born in Springfield Township, Larry began a life devoted to serving others. An Ohio Northern graduate, he loved sports and out of that love spent several years coaching championship basketball teams in Lima, Ohio, and Bedford, Mich. At the retirement of his father, Larry returned home to Springfield Township to help co-manage Beltz Lawn & Garden, the family business. Larry had a call on his life to serve others, but not just through coaching, teaching, or business. He wanted to help others find and grow in Christ and out of that desire grew a vision to start a ministry that broke many paradigms. He, along with others who were committed to the vision he cast, took a singles ministry from the basement of his home to an abandoned bar in Portage Lakes. The birth of The Ark, a Christian nightclub, met the needs of Christian singles for seven years. Out of that ministry, a small church with a big heart was born. In its present location, The Village Chapel continues to reach out to those in need. While the hearts of those he pastored may be broken and hurting, they also re joice knowing that they, one day, will worship in heaven with him.

To all those who knew him, Larry's life was filled with vision. He saw that a 40-acre cornfield, in the middle of Green Township, was worth the time, work, and energy it required for a miraculous transformation. Today, 20 years later, the old cornfield is postcard-picturesque with a church, log home, tailored flower beds, a pristine lake, manicured lawns, and 16 miniature donkeys. Larry's vi sion is a testimony to the grace and faithfulness of his Lord.

Larry's family and friends look forward to the day that they'll see him again in heaven. But until that time, many can testify that their lives have been made better by journeying with him.

Survivors include his wife and partner in ministry, Linda Franklin Beltz; daughter and son-in- law, Cameron and Christine Simmons Keaton; granddaughters, Madison Mallory and Lau ren Elizabeth Keaton; adopted son, Star; brother and sister-in- law, Don and Marylea Beltz; niece, Juilea Beltz Riouch (Amine) and family; and faithful companions, Carl and Ab-be. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dale Owen and Helen Griggy Beltz, and nephew, Blanton Blaine Beltz.

Funeral service Tuesday, May 18, 2 p.m., at The Village Chapel, 1060 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. Burial at Woods Cemetery in Uniontown. Friends may call Sunday and Monday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver UNIONTOWN Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale St., and one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church. Memori al contributions may be made to The Village Chapel to contin ue Larry's vision and legacy.

Dear Linda and Family,

You and the Family have been in my thought and prayers with the passsing of Larry. I will not forget the Sunday Williard UCC was able to be a part of your Church, and how welcome Larry made us fill. Linda, I know how much we have talked about our grandchildren and the void the children will have without Larry, continue to be strong and I know that your faith will help you during this time.

Dear Linda and Chris,

I can't believe it's been so long ago since I've seen you and Larry. I celebrated 16 years of marriage on 5/14. Mary Kelly called to let me know of Larry's death. Please accept my condolences and prayers for your family. My years at The Ark were very special ones for me. Between there and the Singles class at the Chapel, I found a wealth of friendships and renewed faith. Thank you so much for your part in that. My husband and I have been spending part of our vacation every year in Akron. Maybe we'll have a chance to visit the Village Chapel again. It's wonderful to know that you and Larry have kept that ministry through these years. I know that many have been touched by your love for the Lord and your witness, because you both made a big difference in my life. God Bless You.

Linda,

I often check back on my "roots" in OH and was saddened to see Larry's name listed today. I know he is in a much better place than we all are now, but would like to also pass along my condolences. It has been a long time since I have been there to the Village Ministries, but will never forget the impact you all had on my life. I do send my best wishes and love to you all.

Dear Linda and family,

It was only in March that Pastor Larry was doing a funeral for Martha Berry. Paul Berry, Deb and Larry Carney and myself were so very thankful for both the kindness you and Larry gave us. We will miss him dearly. He was always there when someone was in need. May God bless you and your family and give you strength. May He comfort you in knowing Larry is with our Lord where there is no sicknessm pain or suffering, just everlasting life. May his memory be eternal!

Dear Linda, It was quite a shock to hear that Larry died last week. My wife and I send our sincere condolences to you and your family. It was only four months ago when the Bedford HS basketball team and coaches from '70/71 reunited with one another; and it was so great to see Larry there. He was in perfect health and humor. We will miss him dearly and I am so happy to have had Larry touch my life. God bless you and your family and may he rest in peace.

Linda, I just wanted you to know how saddened my whole family is with Larry's passing. We loved him and will miss him dearly. He was our teacher, our shepard and our best friend, as you are also. I will keep you in my prayers and if there is anything you need I am a phone call away. God will be with you through this and the years ahead. Keep the faith.

When Carl L. told me about your death, after I was "floored," I thought "that's just like him, he always had to be first!" Smiling :) You beat all of us to be home with our Lord ..."where there is no longer tears, sorrows, pain.." I say all of this with tears of sorrow, because this area is going to miss a great man, and out of joy, because "I know whom you have believed in, and I'm persuaded that he is able..." If there was ever a "REAL" believer ... If there was ever one who was NOT fake ... and IF THERE WAS EVER SOMEONE WHO TOLD IT LIKE IT IS, It was you Larry! I felt strong "IN HIM" just rubbing elbows with you. Thank you for letting me into your life. Knowing you were close by helped me believe, just thinking of you. I love you and your dear wife. I will see you some day... I need to be a grandpa for now ;)
