Larry L. Mickley

1937 - 2021

Larry L. Mickley former President and CEO of O'Neils Department Store passed away very peacefully on September 7, 2021 in Fort Myers Florida. His wife of 59 years, Inda (Roberts) Mickley was by his side. He was born in Springfield, Illinois on November 19, 1937. He is survived by his wife Inda and daughter Leah Kremer (Wes) and grandchildren; Shelby Kremer and Brendan Kremer who loved their Papa so much. He is also survived by one sister; Sondra Burcham and several nieces and nephews. Larry graduated from Ben Davis High School class of 1955 in Indianapolis, Indiana and also attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. His line of work was retailing and he had started selling Men's Clothing at William H. Block Co. in Indianapolis, Indiana. He came up thru the ranks of May Company Department Stores, was President of Strouss Department Store in Youngstown Ohio, then became President and CEO of O'Neils Department Store in Akron, Ohio. He retired as President of Payless Shoe Source in Topeka Kansas. He loved life, his family and all sports especially the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. He would always say "never had a bad day, some days are just better than others!" He will be missed by his family, friends and golfing buddies. Larry had started a Colorectal Support Group here in Fort Myers 20-years ago after he survived this condition. In his memory contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at a future date.
