Lockhart Davis Arbuckle Jr.

1933 - 2021

Dr. Lockhart Davis Arbuckle Jr., 88, passed away on Feb. 22, 2021 with is loving partner, Helen Rygmyr by his side. He was born Jan 2, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Lockhart Davis Arbuckle Sr. and Gladys (Whitehead) Arbuckle. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Arbuckle, son, William Arbuckle, granddaughter, Sydney Hinks, and sister, Margaret Mayo. Davis graduated from Williams College in 1955. In 1956, he married Julia C. Card. Davis received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Cornell University on June 3, 1959 and on August 11, 1962 he received his Master of Science in surgery from the University of Virginia. He proceeded to practice urology for 35 years at the Akron Clinic and Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio, where he was Chairman of the Urology Dept. from 1974-1998. Davis was a member of the American Board of Urology and the American Urological Association. He became a Fellow of the America College of Surgeons on Oct. 9, 1969. On May 15, 1993, the Society of Distinguished physicians conferred a fellowship upon Dr. Arbuckle. He served as Professor of Urology at the Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine from 1973-1998 and served as its program director. He was named teacher of the year at Akron General Medical center in 1978, 81, 87. Davis retired in 1998 and he and his late wife, Julie, moved to Punta Gorda, Florida. In retirement, Davis enjoyed golfing, boating, and attending the symphony. After his wife's death, he met Helen Rygmyr and enjoyed 10 years, wintering in Punta Gorda, and spending summers in Point Roberts, Washington. Davis leaves behind his partner, Helen Rygmyr, and two children, Nancy W. Mangus (Joey) of Grand Haven, Michigan, and Douglas S. Arbuckle (Sandra) of Wadsworth, Ohio. In addition to his children, Davis leaves behind his grandchildren, Benjamin Hinks, Stuart Arbuckle, Sean Hinks, Andrew Arbuckle, Maddie Arbuckle, Caitlin Arbuckle, and Kelsey Bradford, and his devoted 16-year-old Yorkie Terrier, Sir Winston Churchill. A celebration of Davis' life will be held later in Akron, Ohio, where he practiced medicine and raised his children. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or Tidewell Hospice of Florida.
