Mabel Predojev Obituary

Mabel O. White Predojev (Jarrell) of Pembroke, Massachusetts, formally of West Virginia, and Ohio went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2013 after a long illness. She died peacefully at home at 90 years and 6 months of age.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Watha Mae Simmons Jarrell and Sidney Albert Jarrell of Cedar Grove, W.Va.; her siblings, Mary Ellen Taylor of Wichita, Kans., Evalee Trail of St. Albans, W.Va., Arbutus Wixcey of Akron, Ohio, Gloria Sturgil of Hurricane, W.Va., Fred Ollis Jarrell of Cedar Grove, W.Va.; and grandson, Michael "Mickey" Predojev of Lancaster, Calif.; She is survived by her youngest sister, Watha Agnes Davis, of Powellton, W.Va.; her children, Larry White and wife Shirley of Quincy, W.Va., Deanna White-Hebert and husband James of Pembroke, Mass., Karen White Guistino of Brunswick, Ohio, and Michael "Mickey" Predojev and wife Charatsanan of Pembroke, Mass.; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mabel was one of the Rosie the Riveters recruited during World War II to work at Goodyear Aircraft in Akron, Ohio. At 20 years old she moved from West Virginia to Akron to work on building airplanes, a job she always remembered fondly. She raised her family in Akron and moved to Pembroke, Mass. where she has lived, with her daughter, for 37 years. She had a very active life volunteering at the Beechwood Community Life Center in Quincy, Mass. serving lunches to the seniors, where she became involved in the first Senior Olympics, in 1983, winning the Outstanding Competitor Trophy. She competed in seven events and was the only woman in the 3 ½ mile road race. She continued her involvement for a number of years, winning more medals in her age group. She began running in local road races in Massachusetts, Ohio, and West Virginia, bringing home many trophies. She began volunteering at the Council on Aging in Pembroke, Mass. serving lunches. She was hired and she continued to work for a number of years in Pembroke and Hanson.

Mabel loved her family and her dogs. A vacation, to her, was visiting family in another state. She was very gifted working with her hands whether on planes, machines, sewing, embroidery, decorating, or cooking. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

For those who wish, donations may be made in Mabel's name to the Jordan Hospital Senior Behavioral Health Center, 275 Sandwich Street, Plymouth, MA 02360. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Quealy & Son Funeral Home, Abington. Please sign online guestbook www.quealyandson.com Quealy Funeral Home, 781 878 2112
