Mary DeHaven Obituary

Mary DeHaven

Mary DeHaven died on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Elant at Fishkill at the age of 88.

Mary was born Mary Alice Malone on August 6, 1925 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Alice Virginia Malone. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a BA in English. It was at the UW that she met her husband, William DeHaven. Bill and Mary were married on September 22, 1947. After moving to Akron, Ohio and raising her only son, she returned to school and received both a Masters and PhD in English from Case Western Reserve University. She taught English at Akron University until she and Bill retired in 1987 and moved back to Madison, where they resided until William's death in 2005. Mary spent her final years with her son and grandchildren in New York. She loved life in general, but especially family, friends and travel.

Mary is survived by her son, Patrick DeHaven, her granddaughter, Katherine DeHaven and grandson, Matthew DeHaven.
