Michael W. Smith "Big Mike" lost a long two year fight with illness at 5:06 p.m. on February 11, 2014, surrounded by family at the Cleveland Clinic.

Born on September 9, 1960 to Del and Shirley Smith in Orrville, Ohio, he graduated from Norton High School in 1978 and worked at Gerstenslager Co. (Artiflex) for 21 years until the time of his illness. Mike loved the outdoors, playing golf, and was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.

He was preceded in death by his father, Del Smith and maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Sharon Smith of Wooster; mother, Shirley Smith of Norton; sister, Deborah Smith of North Canton; children, Craig of Tennessee, Yolande (Paul) of Killbuck, Ohio, Melissa (Bill) of Wooster and John (Christie) of Ashland; as well as 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014, 11 a.m. at the Zak-Thacker and Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, 44230, with Elder Dwayne Caldwell officiating. Burial to take place at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Friends and family may call Friday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
