Michael Stefanov, 48, died Sat urday, June 1, 2002, at his home in Stormville, N.Y., where he moved to in August 2001. He previously resided in Stow, Ohio.

He was born May 31, 1954, the son of Michael J. and Rita McClos key Stefanov. His mother survives in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Mike held a B.S. in physics from Mansfield University, a M.S. from Kent State University, and a Ph.D in physics from Kent State Universi ty and Liquid Crystal Institute. During his 20-year career, he worked at a variety of companies including Lockheed, 3M, the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Svision, and Phil ips. He was a member of the executive committee for the Society for Information Display.

He published many technical papers and held a number of issued patents. Mike was most recently director of manufacturing at Philips Components, LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) in Business Unit, Briar cliff, N.Y.

Mike was dedicated to his family. He was an avid supporter of his sons' sports activities, ice hockey, football, track, and soccer. He coached soccer for seven years. His family was his everything.

He enjoyed the out-of-doors, hiking, fishing, camping, and skiing. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins fan.

Mike was referred to endearingly as "Big Bell" and "Pops" by Mouse and Bode. He will be cherished forever by his family and friends.

On June 1, 1985, in Felton, Ga., he married Louise Staley, who sur vives at home. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his sons, Brett of Stow, Ohio, Micky and Jeffrey at home; his sister, Barbara Huhn of Greensburgh, Pa.; his brothers, John of Anaston, Ala., James of Titusville, Fla., Dan of Canansburg, Pa., Mark of Indiana, Pa., and Patrick of Canansburg, Pa.; and many nieces and neph ews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Stefanov children's educations fund. Please make checks payable to Louise Stefanov and mail in care of John or Lisa Dean, 81 Sunny Lane, Stormville, N.Y. 12582.
