Nina Armstrong

Nina Stubblefield Armstrong, 96, of Akron, Ohio and formerly of Normal, Illinois, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010 at Rockynol Retirement Community.

She was born August 8, 1914 in Bloomington, Illinois and grew up on the family farm near Covell, Illinois. After attending a one room school house, she graduated from Bloomington High School and went on to Illinois State Normal Teachers College. In 1935, she married Howard Dean Armstrong, the older brother of her high school friend, and began their married life in Chicago. They made their home in Villa Park for 40 years until retiring to Normal, Illinois. In 1998, Howard and Nina moved to Akron, Ohio to live near family.

Nina was devoted to and loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, cooking, and baking pies. She and her husband enjoyed watching major league sports together and traveling to all the 50 United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Kenya.

Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Howard. She is survived by her daughter, Ann (Geoff) Henman of Oxford, England; son, James (Nancy) Armstrong of Melbourne, Florida; grandchildren, Robin (Randy) Kilbride of Wadsworth, Ohio, Scott (Wendy) McLaughlin of Canal Fulton, Ohio, Ellen (Ken) Tollett of Wadsworth, Ohio, James (Jennifer) Armstrong of Lakenheath, England, Susan Armstrong of Sunrise, Florida, Robert (Suzanne) Armstrong of Miami, Florida, and Craig (Karla) Armstrong of Miami, Florida; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Saturday, October 23, 11 a.m. at Beck Memorial Home, 209 E. Grove Street, Bloomington, Illinois, where friends may call Saturday, 10 to 11 a.m. Burial immediately following the service at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, Illinois. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
