Norman Bolanz Obituary

Norman "Norm" E. Bolanz

On Friday, Aug. 11 2017 Norm died at home after a brave and courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was diagnosed with this horrific disease two and a half years ago. Norm was one of three sons of Carl and Evelyn Bolanz.

Directly from high school Norm enlisted in the Marine Corp for three years. Taking advantage of the G.I. bill he enrolled at the University of Akron and graduated with a bachelors degree in Industrial Management. Immediately following graduation he was hired by Western Electric and retired as an Area Manager after 25 years of service.

Following in his father's footsteps Norm was a lover of nature and a devotee of the natural world. As an ardent hunter and fisherman he had the opportunity to observe rare animal behavior only a woodsman would encounter.

He was also an attentive husband that was always supportive of his wife's interests and passions. He was willing to do anything at anytime for all of her art projects.

Norm was a devoted family man. He was always there for his children. They were helped in every home project they ever requested. On every out of state visit he worked tirelessly building decks, planting trees and assisted in many home improvement projects; he was a consummate handy man.

What words best describe Norm? From high school he was always known as a "nice guy". That description held throughout his entire life.

He was preceded in death by his eldest bother, Richard of Denison, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; son, Darren and wife Shari of Aurora, Illinois; daughter, Tricia Bolanz- Riedy of Flemington, N.J., and brother, Karl and wife Gayle of Columbia, S.C. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Shelby Bolanz, Maxwell Bolanz, Brooke Riedy, and Kennedy Riedy.

Our thanks to the Cleveland Clinic Hospice team-especially Donna Dies and Tammi Reddick.

Per his wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. The family appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers.

As someone who knew Norman through the eyes of Darren and Tricia, I see where they both got their grit and determination. As a high school kid, parents always seemed larger than life, but great people sometimes are. We are all better people for knowing him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shirley, Darren and Tricia.

Shirley, and Family, my sincerest condolences on the passing of Norm. Chuck Nagle, Norm and I, worked on a couple of project, phone installations, and Electrical upgrades for customers. Always was a pleasure working with Norm, or when he and Chuck came to the Egg Castle before or after a job, for coffee. You both came in for dinner once in a while, was always a pleasure to see you both when I was managing. Yours and Norms smiles would light up the room. May the perpetual light shine upon him and may his soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed Rest In Peace.

Dear Karl and family, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. He did good for all that time with cancer. I lost my brother Tom in March and sister Joan in June who you meet. Not a good year for me.

God bless.

Dearest Shirley, Our family is holding you and you whole family in our prayers. God has welcomed Norm home, free of his earthly struggles to everlasting joy and peace. Maybe Norm is even fishing for walleye with his buddy, Paul enjoying the heavenly realm. May God bless you and keep you in His loving care. Most sincerely,
