Pete Matulavich Obituary

Pete Matulavich

Pete Matulavich, 85, of Franklin Township, passed away quietly at home on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, leading an active life to the very end.

An Akron native, he at tended Lane Elementary School and South High School. He served with the Merchant Ma rines before returning to Akron, where he worked as an electri cian and supervisor at Firestone for most of his career. He was an independent, self-sufficient, and strong-willed man, and raised a family of four sons, whom he instilled with a solid work ethic and common decen cy. He retired in 1976 but continued to stay active, driving his own commercial truck for a number of years. An avid fisher man, he enjoyed fishing the Portage Lakes, which he had fished since he was a boy. He also enjoyed playing pool with his sons and doing crossword puzzles.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary; his parents, Pete and Mary; his brother, Sam; and his sister, Regina. He is survived by his sons, Sam (Barbara) of Jackson Township, Michael (Pat) of Green, Pete (Zirka) of Akron, and Paul (Cindy) of Akron; his niece, Mary Ann (Robert) Isen burg of Middleburg, Fla.; his grandchildren, Mikey, Mark (Becky), Rachel (John) Mostar, Matthew (Brandi), Aaron, and Adam of the Akron area, and Sarah of Springfield, Mo.; and his great-grandchildren, Destany, Marisa, Steven, Michael, and Alex of Akron.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, 95 W. Waterloo Rd. In terment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends TODAY, 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. (Kucko-An thony-Kertesz, 330-724-1281, www.kakfh.com)
