Phyllis Mae Devlin

Phyllis Mae Devlin, 94, of Akron, Ohio, died on July 30, 2021. She was born on January 11, 1927 in Farmer Township, Ohio. Phyllis was the first of three daughters of the late John W. Blosser and Eleanor M. Norrick. Phyllis graduated from Bowling Green State University where she earned her master's and doctorate degrees in chemistry. On July 6, 1957, Phyllis and Edward F. Devlin were married in St. Luke Roman Catholic Church in River Forest, Illinois. Thereafter, they resided in Akron, Ohio. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Edward F. Devlin. Phyllis is survived by their three children, Cecelia, Barbara, and Peter Devlin;, grandson, Dustin; her aunt, sister-in-law, nieces and nephews, and her dear friend, Janet Wertz. Phyllis' love for learning continued throughout her lifetime. She was always learning new skills, including sewing tailored clothing, counted cross-stitch, Dewey Decimal library cataloging, Apple computer skills during the first generation of computers, Microsoft Excel, book binding, swimming, and competitive senior tennis. Phyllis also had many other interests that she enjoyed throughout her lifetime. She was a trail maintenance and historian with the Buckeye Trail Association, avid bird watcher, birding by ear, and surveying breeding birds and butterflies. Burial will be at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Donations in memory of Phyllis may be made to the charity of your choice.
