Robert Hackel Obituary
Robert Hackel, age 80, passed away April 18, 2013, after a long illness.
Robert, born July 11, 1932, was preceded in death by parents, Florance (Brach) and Raymond Hackel; his sister, Betty Wade; and his first wife, Doris (Hoefflin). He will be greatly missed by his five loving children, Jean Miller, Thomas Hackel, David (Kelly) Hackel, Carol (Randy) Malick, and Susan (Mark) Gaskill; and grandchildren, Celeste and Christian Miller, Tyler Hackel, Lily and Joseph Malick. He is survived by his wife, Elva.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Louisville in Kentucky. He married the love of his life, Doris Hoefflin in 1960. They moved to Akron to begin their life together and soon started a family. He worked in mold design at Goodyear, retiring with 37 years of service.
Dad taught by example to be responsible, dedicated and hard-working. He benefited many with his generosity. An avid gardener, he enjoyed sharing his produce with neighbors and friends. He was a member and president of Goodyear Runner's Club and logged 18,000 miles. He was a regular blood donor, donating over 29 gallons of blood.
Friends may call TODAY, Sunday, April 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 22, 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Street, Akron, Ohio 44312 by Father Michael Williamson. PROCESSION WILL FORM AT THE CHURCH. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, where Mogadore VFW Post 8487 will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Road, Twinsburg, OH 44087 or Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, OH 44333-3118.

So sorry about the passing of my fine neighbor, Bob Hackel. He and I often chatted since he parked besides my home and often ran by. Didn't t know his daughter, Sue, was the wife of my friend, Mark. Condolences to the family. Ann Mattingly.

I will miss visiting with Uncle Bob from Ohio. We always had fun and played with our toys. The remote control, big equipment trucks were his favorite. I will miss Uncle Bob, but am happy he is in Heaven.

I am sorry for your loss. "Uncle" Bob was such a great man. He was adored by my children because he shared so many things with them from his life and childhood. We looked forward to his trips to visit us each August. I will miss sharing my children's lives with him as they grow and accomplish so many things. R.I.P.
