Robert Uber Obituary

Robert H. Uber, 72, passed away on January 23, 2020 at Santa Cruz Hospital in Green Valley, AZ. Bob was the first born son of Robert and Henrietta and spent an idyllic childhood growing up on North Hill. He graduated from North High School as an outstanding athlete which shaped his outlook on life and created life-long friends. He had the honor of playing in the Ohio All Star football game. After 50 years in the elevator business he retired from Lerch Bates Consulting, where he continued to work as a part time consultant. He could outdrive anyone on the golf course and enjoyed 40+ years golfing in Myrtle Beach with his buddies. He lived life to the fullest and was happiest surrounded by family and friends. His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren, which led to many cross county road trips to Seattle, Phoenix and Texas. He also enjoyed wintering in Arizona. Bob was a board member at the Polish American Club and enjoyed working the Friday night Fish Fry. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Jack and Alice Turner and brother-in-law, Ron Earvin. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane (Turner); his daughters, Lisa (Robert) McGowen, and Cara Gaylor; and his son, Chris (Zoey) Uber. His beloved grandchildren, Mackenzie and Kelsey McGowen, Madison and Hunter Uber and Alice and Lauren Gaylor. He leaves behind his sister, Janet (Tom) Lawrence; brothers, Larry (Cherie) and John (Becky); sisters, and brothers-in-law, Judy and Fred Abood and Jill Earvin; many nieces and nephews; and his much loved Airedale, Aggie. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at Hennessy-Bagnoli-Moore Funeral Home, 936 North Main Street, Akron, OH 44310 (corner of N. Main St. and Mildred Ave.). Visitation will be Monday, February 3, 2020, 5:00 pm - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Robert's final resting place will be Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Polish American Club of Akron, 472 E Glenwood Ave., Akron, OH 44310 or The Humane Society of Akron, 7996 Darrow Road Suite 30, Twinsburg, OH 44087. Went to North High with Bob and Jane, both were the nicest people you would ever want to meet. Bob was a great Football player, and a lot of fun to be around and got along with everyone. Jane I am so sorry for your loss. May God be with you and your family through this very difficult time.

To the Uber Family
I had the honor of being on the 1964 Viking Football team that lost a heartbreaker to East on Thanksgiving day. Bob was the starting center and I was a backup. He was a great role model for us underclassmen and always willing to help the guys get better at their game. He was a true leader, but above all he was a decent and kid human being. We were neighbors in the Falls until the last five years since we moved to Green. He was a great neighbor always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Heaven just accepted its newest angel.

My condolences to all members of the Uber family on the passing of Bob. I knew Bob back in high school, and what a great guy he was back then! I was a sophomore member of the excellent 1964 football team when Bob was a senior. That team, as so many people from North High remember, lost to East 7-6 in a heartbreaker in the Thanksgiving Day Championship Game. I was a backup player, but it was a huge honor to be part of that great team. Bob was a tremendous football player, and he was right up top with the very best players on that team. Bob was a very decent guy, and he was very friendly and easy to talk to. He was a tremendous role model for all the younger players on the football team. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to see Bob the weekend of our high school football reunion five years ago. I know he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Bob and I were on the basketball team my sophomore year. I remember the game against Springfield high and we were at 98 pts. Yes we were that good then. Bob got in the game and took his shot from half court with that grin on his face like he knew it would go in. It did and we went wild. Loved that guy!

I have wonderful memories of Bob, who dated my sister, Natalie, for a while at North High School. We used to all squeeze into a little MG sports car after school and drive home, Natalie being old enough to drive. Bob was always fun to be with! I am glad that he lived such a full life.

Sending all my love and prayers to my lifetime friend Lisa and to Jane and Cara and Chris. Bob (forever Mr. Uber to me) was such a great man. He even saved my life once when we were kids. I have so many wonderful memories of laughter and great times growing up with your family that I will always treasure. I pray all your memories will help ease you through this sad time.
Love,
Pam
