Roy Grayem Obituary

Roy A. Grayem, age 89, died September 21, 2009 with family at his side.

He was a lifelong resident of Akron and proudly retired from Goodyear Aerospace Wheel and Brake Division.

Roy was a dedicated family man. He devoted his life to his wife and children and they were his greatest joy. Later, when the children grew up and had children of their own, he was proud of the large family that he and his wife Dottie created. In his younger days he was a great dancer and could really "cut the rug" out on the dance floor. Roy possessed a natural ability for creative problem solving and used this talent at work and at home. He also loved gardening, taking care of his home, and was a great Mr. Fix-it. But his real talent and passion was playing the organ. As a kid he was too poor to afford lessons so he was self-taught and played, as he said, "by ear". He also had a wonderful sense of humor that was touched with a spark of playful mischief that never left him. But more importantly, he had a warm friendly nature and people were drawn to him. Everyone he met was his friend.

Preceded in death by his infant daughter, Cathy; grandson, Jason; brothers, John Grayem, Willis Grayem; sisters, Lillian Tankersley, Dorothy Ralston and brother-in-law, Ray Lord.

Roy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dottie (Lord); children, Linda (Gene) Easter, Louis (Beckie) Jordan, Dollie Amirault, Jane (Richard) Jewett, R.D. (Nancy) Grayem; brothers, Don Grayem, Richard (Doris) Grayem; in-laws, Melanie Lord, Peyton (Theresa) Lord; grandchildren, Michael (Storme) Jewett, Laura (Kevin) Roach, Lindsey Jewett, David (Maureen ) Amirault, Jon Amirault, Lukas Jordan, Micah (Valerie) Jordan, Lydia Jordan, Madison Grayem; great-grandchildren, Colin, Reagan and Tyler Amirault, Kenneth Roach; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call Wednesday, September 23, 6 to 8 p.m. at Adams Mason Funeral Home, 791 E. Market St., Akron. Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 24, 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park to follow. (ADAMS MASON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 330-535-9186)

Dot and Family,

My prayers go out to you in this hard time. Roy was a wonderful man who loved his wife, children, and grand-children. When I was little i would go over and visit him all the time. I loved listening to his stories. He was played the organ for me once and he was a great player, I loved watching him draw pictures he was an amazing artist. I remember him standing at his front door when we were leaving for school everyday. I will Truely miss the great guy Roy was.

Dottie,
My thoughts and prayers are with you - I just got back from the funeral service and can't express enough of how touched I was at the service by what all the children, and even yourself, had shared - it was truly unforgettable!
God Bless You!

My prayers go out to the family and friends. It is so hard to let someone go home to be with the Lord. May God bless each and every one of you as you grieve.

As hard as it may be...try to hold your head up high and remember all of the times you shared laughter and smiles.
