Russell Olinger Obituary
Russ Olinger, 89, passed away April 25, 2019. He was born June 24, 1929 in Akron to the late William and Nannie Olinger. Russ graduated South High School in Akron, joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he married Mary Oriti and settled in Firestone Park and later Green. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 36 years as a letter carrier. In 1984, he started a new career as a travel agent which allowed Mary and Russ to travel frequently. He loved golf, music and spending time with his friends and his family.
In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; brothers, Joe, Kelly, and Harry Olinger and sister, Lina Fulton. He is survived by his son, David (Nancy) Olinger; daughter, Julie (Mike) Benear; grandchildren, Gianna Olinger, and Alexa Benear; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of the Danbury in North Canton for all their support in his last years.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 P.M. on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR 619), Akron, Ohio 44319. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 1 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in Russ's name to Green Schools Foundation, P.O.
